I call this stuff, chicken crack - my Red Stars just love the mealworms. They all gather round and even jump in lap to beg for some.

ha! I so agree. I gave some to my chicks...twice, and they got so crazy we decided to wait until they're out in the coop so they'll be farther away from each other! Crack is a good word for it.

My Dora loves the meal worms. Her favorite food of all! When Tractor Supply starting carrying it it was affordable, now the price is unreal. Dora is worth it though

I too have just introduced them to my baby girls and they were so excited running around to find them! ( i too can only just bring myself to handle them!) :)

You can raise them yourself -- also check out black soldier fly grubs that can be raise on compost -- very cool insects and the ckickens eyes bug out for them

No kidding. My ladies go nuts when I bring out the bag. They know what it looks and sounds like, and come running like their tails are on fire!

Scrapingran, that is the perfect description!
We were also lucky enough to discover a local feed store that carries meal worms in bulk which is about 1/3 of the price.

I got my hens after they were 7 mo old which means they are also more difficult to get my hands on them. I am using the mealworms to win them over. I treat them once a day and Im winning their stomachs on the way to winning their hearts!!

I use these to get my back into their own yard. They get to free range later in the day and sometimes I find them over at my neighbors scratching around. So I shake my meal worm container and call them and here they come RUNNING! It's hilarious to watch, but they know when momma's calling she's got a great treat. Who says chickens can't be trained! lol

My hens love them and come running for them. My only complaint is that they are from China.,

If you haven't already discovered this -- chickens are fierce carnivores! They will go nuts for ground beef!

I do not know if all the locations carry them, but Lowes has mealworms in a pretty good sized bag with their bird seed and what not and we typically buy it from there now instead of this brand. Amazon also carries them where you can buy them in bulk for cheaper too. Just a thought. Our chickens love them so much, and are trained to go back into their run for them.

they are great! We put ours in Ziploc and add a little water too soften and keep them in the fridge for a cool treat. But only a days worth at a time.

Mine totally ignore the freeze dried. Their "crack" are the live meal worms! Fed my babies grubs I found when building their coop and pen. You're off easy if yours like freeze dried. Good for you!
