Harris Farm 5 Gallon Top Fill Waterer

Easy to fill and clean- top fill Fully assembled Durable poly construction 5 gallon capacity
Only works on a perfectly flat surface.
Pros: Easy to fill
Cons: Leaks out all of the water if the surface it sits on isn't perfectly falt.
We can't keep this in any of the chicken runs because the ground isn't flat. When they were using the wooden coop, the bedding on the floor wasn't flat enough and it would soak the whole coop.

We got this to keep water in the chicken runs easily. I have issues with my joints, so the goal was to have to fill less, and be able to bring smaller amounts of water over (the hose didn't reach)

This didn't work. The thing now sits on the concrete slab outside the back door because it is the only place flat enough for it. My Guinea fowl drink from it, but I can't use it how it's intend.

I ended up getting a couple smaller water containers that are easier to carry for each coop. We currently have 4 coops.

Pros: Lift the lid and fill it, just that easy!!!
Cons: Spray the water bowl area out of much each day to keep them clean and healthy.
I needed this, I could not being lifting lots of water every day due to neck issues. This is simple bring in the hose and fill it up and it's a done deal.

Pros: Easy to fill
Cons: Not surdy enough to hang and lid won;t close if you hang it.
The float inside is two pieces and water logs and then doesn't work and all the water drains out. You need to unscrew the plastic bolt in the bottom of the bucket and remove the float. With it being dry pop the two pieces apart. The make sure it is clean and glue them together. I used Goop before pressing them together and another bead after together on both seam lines. Let cure for 24 hours and put the waterer back together and it works good now.

Pros: Would be a pro if I could get it to work.
Cons: The tray/trough doesn’t hold water for longer than 10 minutes
Float fills and holds water easily.
I hate this “waterer.”
From day one we have had issues with it leaking, if it wasn’t absolutely PERFECTLY level.
Once we got it perfectly level, it worked really well for a week, but the water level was always very near the top of the lip.
I went out to check the chickens after filling it the day before and it was empty- the girls were thirsty- and that’s when the hatred began.
Took it apart, “cleaned it”- (it wasn’t dirty) put it back together: Held water for a couple of days then leaked all of it out.
I placed it into a black rubber feeding pan (that had a lip a little taller than it’s own water tray) so that it could overflow until it was deep enough to actually have the internal float work as intended and stop the flow. It worked for a very short while, a couple weeks or so, as long as we kept it in this, slightly deeper pan.
Then it started to overflow out of the pan: the internal float (the part that looks like a large black donut) is not all one piece, and would fill with water. I could drain the float just by holding it sideways and it would work for a few days then the “float” refills with water.
By this point, I just wanted it to work. We sealed the float with aquarium silicone and the waterer worked better than ever for three weeks. I was so happy. Then it started leaking again. The only thing I can count on with this: is that it will drain 5 gallons of water. I have no idea. I hate this piece of ugh.

Pros: Leaks, or doesn't allow water through at all.
TWO trips and a half a day messing with these to try to get them to work. The first had a defect that wouldn't allow the water to actually come through....the float was constantly pushed up. The second wouldn't STOP running. Ugh!
Pros: High capacity
Cons: Plastic
Originally bought one of the metal double walls but it wouldn't hold water, kept running out. So far this one is running like a champ and I'm happy with it.
Pros: So easy to refill w/out having to take the entire unit apart.
Cons: Still need to clean it.
No drinker is perfect but this one is by far my favorite of the 8 or so I've tried over the years.

The drinking pan does still get dirty from the hens beaks. But I find I an take a brush and swirl it around quickly and dump the dirty water. Then let the unit refill from what's in the tank and refill the tank if necessary. I do this once or twice a week and then once a month or so take the whole unit apart for a good scrubbing.

It does have to be on a level surface. I have mine on two cinder blocks and it's working nicely. Love that I don't have to take the whole unit apart to refill.
Pros: Easy to fill, large capacity, fill it and forget it
Cons: Keep it level
I have tried many different brands of waterers, but since I bought one of these, all the rest went in the shed. I have numerous separate pens, and one of these in each of them. Just lift off the top, fill it up, and walk away. Easy to disassemble if cleaning is required. I just place them on a 4" thick concrete paver, so keeping it level is not a problem. It is heavy enough that the chickens (or the wind) can't knock it over. It really is the most trouble free (and labor free) waterer I've ever owned.

Pros: Top fill
Cons: Can't hang
I love this. I cannot hang a watered, so that's not a problem for me. Other top fill waterers I've tried have a temperamental gasket, but not this one! I do put it on a level platform to help keep some dirt out.

Pros: Large capacity
Cons: Must be completely level, requires regular maintenance or it leaks
I bought this waterer when I moved my pullets from the brooder to the coop. I liked the idea that it was a top fill and it seemed like a good design. Right from the start I found that if it wasn't completely level it would drain the reservoir. I fixed that issue to find that it still leaked. I reread the directions and troubleshooting on the side and found that I had to take it apart and ensure no debris in the float chamber. This seemed to fix the issue for a while. Then it started leaking again. I took it apart again and found that the float is not sealed and water had seeped in making it less buoyant and causing it to leak again. I emptied the float and reassembled the thing. This only seemed to be a temporary fix as it continued to seep water into the top of the float. I gave up with this waterer and went back to the old fashioned double wall metal ones that I am familiar with.
Update: After contacting the company, the owner responded to my question with troubleshooting tips. When that did not resolve the issue he was gracious enough to send replacement parts. The waterer now works flawlessly. Just needs to be kept level. The customer support was outstanding with this company and I would recommend them if just for this fact.

Pros: Easy Fill, No Flipping, Large Capacity
Cons: Needs adjustments occasionally
After using the flip type waterers for a couple years, I found this top fill model at Tractor Supply. It is great. Holds 5 gallons, and the water tray is larger and deeper than the 3 gallon wateres, so my ducks like them better. Because its top fill, no more spills. Every now and then the waterer will overflow the water tray. This is because the screw in plug at the bottom of the tank comes loose. Simply tighten it again and everything is back to normal. I will never go back to the flip type waterers.

Pros: -very easy to fill and clean. It keeps water cool during the hot Texas summer.
This is a great waterer! After perusing for something that would actually keep water cool over the summer, I stumbled upon this. I dump a bucket of ice into it, fill it once each day, and it remains cool in 100+ degree heat. It is very easy to clean (dump it each evening and spray it down). -would recommend this product!

Pros: easy to fill
Cons: Must be on level ground, Can't hang because of weight of water
I had a small problem with the float getting stuck and dumping all the water out when I first go it. I contacted Harris Farm and they told me I just needed to disassemble and clean it and that worked. You can't hang it because of the weight of the water will make it out of round.

5 Month Update:
I have had no problems with this product and continue to like it. Would recommend!
