Pullet-Shut Automatic Chicken Door Chickendoors.com

https://chickendoors.com/store/ An 11" wide, 15" tall, all aluminum construction...
Great door-at first….
Pros: Easy install
Cons: Poor design
Expensive parts
Weekly maintenance
Initially this door was GREAT-until it wasn’t.
The bottom corner pivot point gets jammed with debris (chickens do what they do) and the motor keeps trying to close until a) the motor burns up or b) the corner of the door at the pivot point breaks off.
After 3 repairs, more than $300 in repair parts, and being told “well, I guess you need to oil it more often” (supposed to oil corner every 6 months -as labeled on chicken door) I bought a COMPLETELY new chicken door system. I would never recommend the Pullet-shut door to ANYONE.

Pullet-Shut Chicken Doors
I'm sorry you had issues. If the bottom hinge is never lubricated, it will eventually bind and break. We recommend putting a drop of oil on it every 6 months but many customers forget and go years without lubrication, it depends on your environment. The motor will sense if there is an obstruction and will stop, so it is not possible for the motor to keep running until it burns out. In fact that has never happened. For the repairs, a new door panel is $50, if the motor is needed it's another $50. I'm not sure how $300 was spent. I notice that the post was done on the first day the account was created, and the user has not logged in since.
Repeat Customer!
Pros: Incredibly EASY to install! I am beginner level in all things handy (36 yo woman) and I installed it all within an hour at 7pm at night using my husbands tools.

No need to charge the battery first. Worked immediately upon install.

Customer service is beyond exceptional. Spoke with one of the owners when I called the phone number. Very friendly and helpful! My question was regarding the type of caulk needed to glue solar panel to plywood. Answer- any standard window caulk. I had exterior/interior caulk handy and had worked wonderfully.

YouTube videos available to watch before install. They were very helpful!

Photo sensor is a light gathering device and it works wonderfully!!

100% made in the US!!

Has worked flawlessly for me!
Cons: Not exactly a con, more like a side note… but Comes with one magnet. If you loose it, you must buy another. Personally, I only needed the magnet to set the door timer and for training the chickens to go to their new coop. Otherwise it is kept on the side of our entryway gun safe. I would hate to loose it since it’s the only one I have but customer service is so great- I don’t see getting a replacement being a big issue.
Originally, I pulled the trigger on the purchase because it was 100% made in the USA and install videos seemed incredibly easy. Figured I could do it myself and let the husband tackle other projects on the endless list.

Well, I loved the pullet shut door from in packaging to install, from install to application! I love it so much I have placed my order for a second door to be installed (by me) on our duck house! I enjoyed the process of installation. Needing only a few building tools like an impact drill, drill bit, leveler and my oscillating multi tool to cut a square into the coop wall. It has works fantastic- the solar panel is effective and esthetically pleasing.

Happy happy customer in VA!

Exceptional product
Pros: 6+ years with no problems at all with no maintenance done. Still working on the original batteries.
Cons: Costly at first but keeps going and going...
I bought two of these doors 6+ years ago. (with the solar set up and the light sensor) We installed them and have not touched them since. It's nice sleeping in on days off and being able to stay in town if something comes up or just want to go to dinner with friends. We did recently have one that started acting a bit odd so we cleaned where the door meets the frame and it started working again. I just ordered a third for our newest coop. I just wish they made some big enough for goats! :lau

Pullet-Shut is the Best
Pros: Working perfectly since 2012. Works in freezing temps as well.
Cons: Costs a little bit more initially. But then again, you get what you pay for.
I am a very satisfied Pullet-Shut customer. I have been using this door since 2012. It simply works no matter how cold it gets, even in Maine winters. The photo sensor and solar panel make the operation of this door effortless and reliable. I wholeheartedly recommend this door for everyone.

Pros: Worked great for short time
Cons: Stopped working in less than 6 months
Loved this door while it worked. Very sturdy steel. Then after less than 6 months it suddenly stopped working. Problem was the connector to the plug. called company to ask about warranty. They did not say there was a warranty. Instead i paid for and Ordered new connector which worked for about 30 days and stopped working again. Very disappointed. Also, do not order the solar kit. No decent instructions on installation and never worked.

We've had this product on our coop for 3.5 years and it has worked like a charm.

Pros: One less job do.
Cons: have to wait for customs if importing
I could not find this type of door in the UK so I imported this one. It makes life so much easier being one less job to do & the sellers are so helpful. I had to wait quite a time before it cleared customs and the £50.00 (not sure what that is in $) import charges was a shock but still worth it. I highly recommend this product and the support that you get from the manufacturers

Pros: Always works. Reliable.
Cons: Just changed battery after 2.5 years .
I would buy it again! Survives Canadian winters.
Pros: Easy to install, well built, no connection to power needed.
Cons: Not an issue for us, but if you coop is out in exposed weather I guess ice and snow could freeze to prevent the door opening, but that would happen with any door.
Shipped fast and it is sturdy and well made. I installed it in about an hour, including reconfiguring the vertical sliding door opening the coop came with. Connecting the battery and solar panel are a breeze. The first night the girls didn't go in on time, I think because they were wary of the new "thing" on their house. I unscrewed the panel and flipped the switch to delay the closing to 30 minutes after sunset, and they have been inside on time since.

We've had it about two weeks. I'll review again after more time.
Pros: Automatic with photo sensor to open at daylight and dark.
Cons: Nothing

Pros: Opens like a regular door right to left or left to right. Sturdy materials, comes mostly assembled, easy to install. Simple to program.
Cons: none yet.
After I lost a chicken to the guillotine style doors that come down, I did some serious research and I believe I found one of the best automatic Chicken doors on the market (Pullet Shut). I love they way it opens and closes, I love the safety feature that will stop if hits chicken and the second chance feature. It was so easy to install and program. Actually you can watch my installation video I did at Discover with Dave YouTube Channel.

I got the door with the solar panel and the battery. It was nice because the power went out recently, but no worries with the charged battery.

I also made a short ad promo for door.

The two guys that started the company seem very nice. Like talking to family.

Pros: This has saved me so much worry!!
It is still working, and I love it.
Great company, easy to work with, and if I ever needed another one, I would buy the exact same one!!
Cons: None
I love this door. I have the solar powered door without the light sensor.
It was a basic model they sold years ago, and I believe they still do.
I bought it about 4 years ago, and have it at our bayhouse(lots of salty air that usually corrodes anything and everything)
It has been through tropical storms, and even 2 hurricanes, and the thing is still doing great!!
This door has saved so much worry and heartache.
The one thing I would suggest to anyone buying this is make sure you reset open/closing times when the time changes. I made that mistake a few years ago, and will never forget again.
(Lost a couple gals) this was on me alone, nothing to do with the company!
Anyway, I love this door, and recommend it to all!!

I want to give a big thumbs up for the pullet-shut chicken door company. I’ve had my door for 4 years and it works great. I had to disconnect it for a bit bc of a neighbors dog. When I plugged it back in I mistakenly connected the cold wire to the hot. Big mistake on my part! When I called pullet-shut and told them what happened they were still willing to honor the warranty and had my information right at their fingertips. No probing questions, no I’m sorry but we can’t, no phone transfers, just friendly, knowledgeable and patient help. They new exactly what to do. They walked me through opening the circuit board and removing it. The best news is that it will cost less than $40 to fix it. I’m tickled pink. I thought I would need new everything but the actual door. They also have new products...I went ahead and bought a photo sensor so I don’t have to program the door when to open and close. Lol I’m not related to them, don’t work there and I received nothing for this review. Just a good door and wonderful customer service.

Pros: Opens to the side so less chance for guillotine effect and dirt to muck mechanism
Wide
Reopens for late comers
Solar panel/ac adapter optional
Door is all one piece, you only have to cut the appropriate size hole to install
Cons: Its a pain to reset the timer during changing daylight unless you have the optional light sensor
Needs space to open outward
Needs space for battery and any attached accessories (solar panel/light sensor)
After one year of use I still love my Pullet-Shut door. It is difficult to figure out the timer at first, and a pain to reset it during season changes. Other than that, it is a work horse that never lets me down! Consistent, heavy duty performer!

Pros: Easy to install, easy to program
Cons: none so far
I have had this door installed for two years now and have had ZERO problems. I was honestly super worried about ordering one because it isn't a big company and I wasn't sure how long it would last or if they would stand by their product if it broke. It has worked without fail for coming up on two years. I had a problem once with programing it and I called the company and they walked me through it on the phone right away. It was user error but they were super nice about it and took the time to walk me through it. The peace of mind that this door has given me is priceless. When I first installed it, I was very worried that it wouldn't work one day and I would come out and find all my girls dead from a predator getting into the coop. I would go outside with a flashlight every night for a month to make sure that door closed! I still check from time to time because it is mechanical and nothing mechanical is 100% fail safe but I rest easy and don't have to walk to the coop every night or morning to let the girls in or out. So worth it!
Pros: Quick learning by hens to know when to go in, battery operated with solar panel makes for ease of mind even if electricity goes out, photo sensor is exceptional, very easy to install.
Cons: A lot of space is needed on front of coop due to motor.
It took 2 nights for my girls to learn when to go into coop. After 2 nights of getting locked out(with me checking and letting them in) they got the hang of it. Now they don't miss bedtime. Many options that are great to have and it is extremely easy to install. My opinion is it is the best quality for the money compared to other doors.

Pros: worked flawlessly for 2 years
Cons: can not be repaird - too expensive to replace
I bought one of these as my first flock was growing up. It was a breeze to install. It worked flawlessly for two years. Then it stopped.
I called the company and was told that there are only 2 things that can be fixed and that they STRONGLY recommend I get both "If one fixes it, you're good and you have a spare for when the other breaks... But you're probably going to need both." I did. After 3 afternoons of sitting on a milk crate and fiddling with it - it became clear that the problem was the connector on the end of the replacement wire between the motor and the 'actuator'. I called them back. "Nope" they can not take the defective part back, but I'm welcome to buy another. And - "Nope" they will not guarantee that the 2nd replacement part will either work properly OR fix the problem.
When I asked if I was maybe doing something wrong I was told 'Well, my little daughter can follow the instructions so I guess you should be able to."
Two more afternoons on the milk crate and a PILE of hot glue later and I got the door working.
.... for about 40 days.

Since I have replaced both of the 'only parts that can be replaced' - at a cost of just over $100...
And since I do not want to continue to re-purchase the same parts over and over hoping one of them will work...
I am left with one of two solutions - replace the entire door (every 2 years???) or simply open up the big 'people' door every morning and evening - which leaves my flock exposed for about an hour before dawn and after sunset.

I know that NOTHING lasts forever.
I didn't expect to purchase on door and be set for my entire chicken raising career.
But I expected that it would outlive the first chickens to use it.
Pros: Consitantly opens and closes using the solar panel as energy source. So convenient and easy to use.
Cons: problem with the light sensor, opening in the middle of the night.
I highly recommend this door. The programmable option with magnet works great and is easy to reset when the light begins to change. I've used this door for over two years without any problems other than the light sensor option, that was opening from some other sources of light in the night (possibly car lights). Great customer care as well.
