The Swedish duck is a landrace that hails from Pomerania. The breed proved very hardy because during it;s founding years and decades, it was raised primarily without human intervention. Alas, most of that enherited hardiness and intellegence have been diluted by careless breeding and the stock we have available today doesn't hold a candle to the old variety. The Blue variety (and resulting Splash and Black) in North America has Orpington blood in it.

Pros: Good rangers; great meat; beautiful; one of the hardiest breeds.
Cons: loud hens. I don't mind this, but some won't like it.
These ducks are a great breed. They are an old landrace from germany (go figure with a name like swedish), and are descended from the Dendermonde landrace, the forerunner of all the North european landraces.

Comments

They look just like regular blue/black swedish ducks. Are they more of heritage breed compared to the others? and if they are, I assume they are more rare than the modern blue/black swedes
