Hi we have a hen sitting on 23 eggs.
She has hatched out 10 gorgeous babies the first was around 30hrs ago and the last about 3hrs ago.
She is fed up and super tired!! She isn't rolling the eggs under herself any more and a few aren't even under her now. Is this just exhaustion, does she not...
Just saw that Premier 1 has a new roll out nesting box. The price is right and they're available for inside or outside access.
Anybody using them? If so, how do you like them?
has anyone ever built a Hoop coop using left over fence on a roll instead of cattle panels. i plane to use 1/2 pvc for the bends and putting the fence on the the pvc and attaching it in the bottom to 4x4. This is going to be used for the 17 new chickens im adding to my flock so that i can...
Sorry, I know i ask a lot of questions... 1st time hatching goose eggs...
My question is, mammy goose Heiti hatched 6 goslings but has moved the remaining 4 unhatched eggs out of the nest onto the floor....🤔
Is this normal or is there something I can do...
thank you in advance people...
Hey, I have 14 hens who all lay brown eggs and one hen who lays white eggs. My hens have been taking the white eggs out of the nesting boxes. Does anyone know why they would do this? Last year my hens went broody during this time, do you think they’re getting ready to go broody again? Help please!
I’m making some roll out nesting boxes for my coop expansion they will have fake grass pads for nesting material.
Quick question
Should eggs roll to the front or back? I have seen both and my set up allows for both. If collection is in back then birds are facing a back wall of nesting area...
So I’m thinking the next batch of chicks I get I will have to build a new coop for so they don’t have the same habits. Now that my whole flock of 7 are pretty much into egg eating I think my only option is to cull or fight this issue until this batch passes. It’s constant two steps fwd and one...
Hi all! Just wondering if anyone else has this problem with their rollout nest box. Mine rolls to the front and there’s a door to lift to get the eggs. The girls are trying to grab the eggs out by trying to roll it back out with their beaks. They break the eggs in doing so. I bought this rollout...
I’ve been looking at several designs for roll out nest boxes. My pullets are 14 weeks old so we are still in the planning stage. I’m thinking it would be easier to prevent egg eating from the start rather than try to correct the problem later. My question is this: do chickens actually do ok with...
I needed a larger nest box for my tool shed coop because I added three more chickens to it yesterday. Total of six now. I found @jthornton roll out design and built one this morning. Mine has a slanted roof because it’s not under anything. I tested it with an egg and it rolls to the bottom...
While chatting with @TexasWineGuy I was inspired to build a front exit roll out nest box for my new coop. The design is to go underneath the poop table and be attached to the poop table so if I move the poop table the nest box goes with it. Originally I was going to build a rear discharge roll...
im considering a roll out homemade nest box. I would like to build a external roll out nest box. I would like to see some pictures of roll out nest boxes. What kind of experience have you had with these nest boxes?
Hello,
my ducks are staying outside during the night next to a pond, where they also lay their eggs. That worked pretty well for some time, but now eggs are dissappearing. I am thinking about putting up these roll out boxes next to the pond with some fake eggs attached to them. Any chance this...
I have a question.
I have seen the nesting boxes where the eggs roll down into a collection bin at the front of the nesting boxes, but do they have any where the eggs roll to the back?
So if I was to hook it into a coop and cut out a hole for the back of the collection area, then not even have...
I started out building a standard cube style nest box and quickly realized that a roll out nest box is a much better solution. You get clean eggs and less chance for a hen to get the urge to eat one. I used pocket screws to build most of this and lined it with a carpet runner. Optionally you...
I’ve just finished my latest project; roll-out nest boxes. Hopefully no more dirty eggs. What do you all think?
I’ve made these out of 12mm ply and cost me about £35 all in and about 3hrs of my time. The sloping trays can be removed or flipped over in the event I get a broody. I lined the boxes...
I think the solution to my space problem is a roll out nest box like this one. Does anyone know the angle of the floor? Would fake grass work instead of the pads?
And yes I've seen the paint tray things and I'm using that.
Thanks
JT
After seeing 3 pullets at a time in the roll out nest box Mk2 and seeing how short in depth it was at just 12" deep I started building a new one with a bit more height, a larger opening, more depth and more width.
One challenge was to make a top hinge lid that is water proof. I solved that on...
