    Wyandotte Egg Color

Ha. Just realized how old this thread is! That's what comes from doing an internet search... Still, curious if it was indeed from your RLBW and they do lay a darker egg than most other Wyandottes.

    Wyandotte Egg Color

I'm thinking it might. I collected eggs when I got home tonight, and there was a small, dark brown one with speckles that I am sure finally came from Bella, my BLRW, who is the last of my 4 youngsters to start laying. In fact, I got on here tonight to see if I could find out what color egg that...

Open Contest Official BYC Contest - Post your best (worst) chicken molt pics!

OK. This is the first time I have had a molting chicken sporting a mohawk... This was Royal, one of my Black Australorps a few weeks ago.

The 2019 Halloween/Thanksgiving Hatch-a-Long Prettiest Hen or Pullet Photo Contest

And this is Bernadette. She is a Speckled Sussex. I call her my FOMO chicken because her "fear of missing out" means she is the first one out in the morning and the last one to go in at night. It's like putting a 4 year old to bed--just one more drink, just one more dust bath... I'm very fond of...

The 2019 Halloween/Thanksgiving Hatch-a-Long Prettiest Hen or Pullet Photo Contest

Motley is one of my youngsters, born in May, and my first Mottled Java. She has lovely midnight black feathers with a green sheen and lots of little white dots like stars scattered here and there. Right now she is in the broody breaker cage and not happy with me. But she is usually quite sweet.

Proof positive--when I went outside this morning I heard cheerful crowing coming from the youngsters' coop.

    What breed is my chicken?

Very handsome. I hadn't heard of this breed before so had to look it up. Now, of course, I want one...

Hi all. Thanks for earlier input. I've got some pics of my little EE Pip at 8 weeks now. So far there's been one vote for pullet and one for cockerel. Tried to get pics of back, tail, neck and comb. That has me confused--I've read that pea combs on a male will have two or three distinct rows of...

    Chicks already fluent in Chicken

Yes, it's fascinating. And watching a 3-day-old chick try to dust bathe by watching mama is hilarious. I got day-old chicks for one of mine who went broody this spring and it is really lovely how quickly they make them their own. Enjoy!

    Speckled Sussex at 7 weeks

I have two speckled sussex hens in my flock and really enjoy them. They are so pretty. Here's a pic of Francis (front) and Bernadette (in back--I thought she might be a roo for a while because her comb was so much bigger than her sister's) as youngsters, and one of B full grown. Bernadette is my...

Any thoughts on the sex of this nearly 6-week old easter egger? I feel confident the others I got at the same time are pullets, but this one has just grown faster and gotten bigger than the others. I haven't noticed much of that upright stance I've spotted pretty quickly in young roos before...

    Show me your chicks!

Yes, one EE (the dark one with fluffy cheeks), a buff orpington, a blue-laced red wyandotte, a mottled java and a welsummer.

    Show me your chicks!

I got 5 little ones this year for my broody to raise. Sorry pic of all of them is so blurry--they move so fast! I slipped them under her after dark, so got to enjoy them in the house for a day before they joined mama. All are doing well and Spring is a very proud mama. I love when she settles...

She was pretty camera shy, but here are some pics of my hen Agate. She has the distinction of being my biggest hen, and the one with the fluffiest bloomers. Very similar shape to my silver-laced wyandotte, but her legs are definitely not yellow--more of dark grey/slate color, and her comb is...

They are dark grey, I would almost call them black. I'll take a pic of her when I get home and post for you to compare.

She looks a lot like one of my Blue Wyandottes. I have two, and one is more charcoal, but the other is a soft grey-blue much like yours. Their combs are supposed to be rose combs, but my two have more of a cushion comb--it doesn't have the ridges like my silver-laced wyandotte's comb has. They...

worried about one of my chicks

Update with good news. I'm doing a 5-day treatment with Corid. Little buff chick is looking more lively again, running around with the others. It also (quite unusually for CA) rained for three days last week, so I kept mama and babies in their coop, which I'm sure helped everyone stay warm...

newbie-how often should i clean the coop

I pick up the poop under the roosts every morning. This simple thing really changed my chicken workload. It only takes 5 minutes a day, versus having to do a much bigger clean out every few weeks, and the coop stays fresh. Now that I've made it part of the morning routine, it's become an easy...
