My neighbor has a bunch of various kinds of squash decorating her porch and steps. She has offered them to me for the chickens when she moves on to other decorations. There must be 15? 18? various sized squash/gourds there. I might have to smash some of them open with a hammer. I think I'll...
I minded the burn barrel for several hours.
I raked the side yard when I started to get chilly standing around minding the burn barrel.
I hauled the pile of leaves that I raked up in the side yard when I started to get chilly standing around minding the burn barrel.
I'm thankful for family, husband, friends. I'm thankful for hubby's and my continued good health. I'm thankful for our dog Freya. I'm thankful for my chickens. And, yes, I too am thankful for BYC!
I raked the side yard and hauled a tarp full of leaves down to the garden. I had to mind the burn barrel, so raking was a good way to stay warm and get something done.
I'll have to look at our local Meijer for their loss leader turkey. I checked a week or so ago, and it was still $2.89 a pound (or something like that).
I'm dreading tomorrow. I'm going to start looking online for insurance for next year. Hubby and I are both retired, so we have to find our own. I'm 15 months away from Medicare, hubby another 11 months after that. Well, IF it's still available at 65 by the time we are that age.
Button is still laying. Off for a week, then one every other day for 2-3 eggs. 50 days until the solstice, and then I can start thinking about/hoping for the girls to get back to work. Yes, I'm buying eggs for now.
Today was too windy to use the burn barrel. Tomorrow should be calmer, 5-10 mph, not 15-20 and gusting to 30.
Really need to burn the stuff in the barrel. I want to also burn the dead asparagus stalks/fronds. I did it last year and think it cut down on the asparagus beetles this year.
31 years here.
There was a story about people who hand out potatoes for Halloween on the news last night. So if we do get any trick-or-treaters, I will give out purple potatoes. Or three or four of them, because they're Fun-Size (fingerling).
