Congratulations on the greenhouse! You and wife will love it! I don't heat mine normally but I have early spring for late cold snaps. I do over winter some marginally hardy potted plants and start seeds in late winter. I use it year round.
Just looking out the window my banana tree looks pretty...
Glad the cold is backing off!
Our frost was light. I'm only expecting minimal damage.
We should see 70s by the weekend. No rain for us either. I'll be back to watering. Seems I've done alot of watering this year.
I'm still doing a little gardening.
I picked and cooked a bunch of mustards. They grow back very fast. Each time I cook enough to eat and freeze some for later.
I've been getting some broccoli. I like to steam blanch these and freeze. Of course we eat some too!
Now I'm working on some...
The snow is so pretty!
I do not handle cold very well anymore due to Raynards. DH helps me with the chickens on the coldest days.
I see a blanket of frost out my window. I think it only made 34f last night. Supposedly there were a few snowflakes flying. I did not see them. lol I was asleep...
That thing is naked! 🫣
Puts some clothes (insulation) on those pipes!
Our well set up for the house is similar except the pump is a heavy duty agricultural pump. It sits above the well instead of inside it. Inside the casing is 1 pipe and the foot valve. Tank sits beside just like yours...
Sorry for your injury. Hope you continue to improve.
Insurance approval. I miss the days when only our family doctors made these decisions. Sometimes insurance approval is a pain and just causes delays in testing and treatment. I've been there myself. I hope your approval comes quickly.
Or Cinderella. She got a beautiful carriage and a prince.
The carriage did turn back to a pumpkin at midnight. It was a cool ride while it lasted and she got to keep the prince!
We also have some sassafras trees. I've seen mittens but never thought of chicken feet. 🤣
Historically, sassafras roots were also used to make a dye for fabrics and fishing nets.
I think if you experiment with timing you can.
They are very heat and cold hardy. Just know that a larger plant is more cold hardy then a seedling. As days get shorter growth slows also. I set seed in mid July indoors underlights. About 4 week old plants move to greenhouse then to morning sun...
I would probably not put these in the freezer. Just wash, remove large stems and cook them. $1.48 lb is a good price.
I like a mix. When adding to the pot, I tear the largest ones.
That would have been just fine. I tend to check BYC more as weather cools. I have more time. I don't have...
I did this when I used to grow collards in summer. It works well!
When planted in spring they will grow all summer, fall and winter. Those plants would get huge.
Collards are a bug magnet in summer so now I just plant them late summer. I've keep a check but hardly any bugs in the garden now...
This is me! Been right here all my life. That accent and all.
I find once I take them out of the pot, most of the salt is left in the broth. Broth is known as "pot likker". When I chop them I usually add more black pepper but little if any salt. Ham hock can vary in saltiness.
Some people...
