    Blindness spreading in my coop.

Ugh, dirty finches. There are tons of finches & sparrows. We also have wild turkey, pheasants, ducks, swans & Canada geese that come through. We live between 2 "prairie potholes", one being the largest in North America.

    Blindness spreading in my coop.

this is a month ago, that's not goop in the corner it's the conjunctiva. I know Brahma's have different eye lids & are prone to cataracts. This eye is hazy now, no change pupil or iris size. The Dominique started the same, closed eye, more exposed conjunctiva than normal & I saw small circular...

    HELP ME PLEASE

I've had that problem with housing different animals too. Go around your house, garage, whatever & gather things that "could" be panels. I've used the board on the back of cheap poster frames even. Get out the duct tape & start creating.

    Blindness spreading in my coop.

Thanks, antibiotics start tmrw for two weeks. Glad to have a large animals vet available & 2 techs keep pet chickens so they don't think I'm nutty. Current thought is maybe virus that weakened their immune system & then secondary infection/virus/parasites. They are all presenting differently...

I can see geese terrorizing small humans that visit, hissing & flapping!! Be good lesson in not chasing/annoying fowl, tee-hee! Hubby rolled eyes at coop expansion, miniature donkeys, & absolutely no goats because they are naughty, lol. Hayfield is farmable wetland, didn't drain this year...

    Blindness spreading in my coop.

It's hard to take advise from someone that just told you you're doing EVERYTHING wrong. Their extra non-feed food is 10% or less. The girls I've had since chicks have had their scrambled eggs on regular basis for over a year & half & have also never molted & lay almost year round. They have a...

    Blindness spreading in my coop.

I'm trying to find that out, the farm store gets them from the Hoover Hatchery & possibly Privit (spelling?) Hatchery. Now another one has developed some respitory today with the aweful gurgling cough- didn't have it yesterday. Aaargh!

    Blindness spreading in my coop.

I don't feel cracked corn is appropriate food for growing pullets! They are on layer crumbles, fruit, veggies, & get scrambled eggs with powdered egg shells everyday (I let shells dry then put them in coffee grinder & mix powder with eggs). Spoiled!

    Blindness spreading in my coop.

Not yet, that's the plan after this two weeks of treatment. They weren't kept in poor conditions, but are eating quality food now along with fresh greens, grains, & fruit with nutritional value, hopefully increase immune system.

Blind one eye, Light Brahma born spring 2019. Ideas?

Ha ha! Sweet Pea comes up to me when I hand out treats & screams at me until I hand feed her. Which hurts sometimes due her poor aim, lol!

    Blindness spreading in my coop.

A month ago my light Brahma went blind in her left eye. Vet came out & looked at her, I had him assess my coop, space, food, litter type, ventilation, all were appropriate. She showed no respitory symptoms. Now (month later) my Dominique is developing the same eye symptoms & has reduced vision in...

8x8 inside with 10+ ft of roosting bars AND a 100sq ft run (chain link + 1 inch hardware cloth, top, all sides, 1ft hardware cloth underground). Then weather/predator permitting they always free range. No roosters...but there is that annoying neighbor....

What makes you think I want more, lol?? When I convince my husband to expand my coop, he had a fit about the size of this one, only 8x8 inside. But he's got a long MN winter in the people coop to listen to me!

Blind one eye, Light Brahma born spring 2019. Ideas?

Thanks, I think cataract or abrasion are good possibilities. My neighbor suggested Tylan 50 & I still can't get any. Even the vet clinic was out! Vet did not see any infection & we've watched about 2 weeks for respiratory symptoms in the flock. Thanks for the link, I'd like to have some on hand...

Blind one eye, Light Brahma born spring 2019. Ideas?

The vet did check her vision & thinks at best she may see light & dark in the left eye. She eats well, but misses sometimes like when she eats from my hand. She eats from one spot in the same feeder in the coop. It's red & attracts her attention I think. She scratches & eats anything she wants...
