Free to good home- Blue Copper Marans and Barnevelder cockerels. Los Angeles area.

I have two boys who need homes ASAP. One is a Blue Copper Marans (he's got feathered feet, so French) cockerel and a Barnevelder cockerel. Both were born May 5th and are friendly and were handled quite a bit. The Blue is more friendly and larger, more dominant. The Blue Marans are...

The road less traveled...back to good health! They have lice, mites, scale mites, worms, anemia, gl

Ok, I have lurked for 200 pages. I have 183 left. I will read, but this girl will post now, read later. I'm a city slicker, hate if you like, but I'm not your typical city dweller. I grow my own food, make everything from scratch and build my own stuff. This girl has tools for days. I live...

I'm the latest contestant on the Pullet vs Cockerel game. "Fifi" is a French Black Copper Maran, wha

I can try to take better photos. What area is best to photograph to get an idea? In sun so you can see the colors? It's coppery at the neck but green and purple in the black area when sun hits them. I'm so new to this, not sure what's the most important on FBCM. Is there any dead give aways...

I'm the latest contestant on the Pullet vs Cockerel game. "Fifi" is a French Black Copper Maran, wha

Rats. Fifi is my buddy. Jumped into my hand right out of the brooder box, comes when I call and eats bugs on command. We forage in the garden together for insects. But we can't have a rooster. Neighbors are way too close to the run. I had suspicious thoughts about the Fifster, but I guess I...

Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

Yes, They are about 12 weeks old, possibly 13. I got them the first week of June at a few days old, at most. I think they were born and shipped within a day or so, some appeared to be a day or so older than others, so I'm approximating. I thought I put that in there, sorry. Wishing- Pecky came...

I've suspected all along but what gets me is the comb is not getting bigger. I have also noticed that the roosters seem to have a comb that extends both forward and backward, the hens don't seem to. Fifi's comb looks like the hens combs and hasn't gotten larger. Anyone know what the deal with...

Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

I've got three EE or Ameraucanas, as they were sold to me. I'm not worried if they are EEs, I really like them. I have a black, brown and a white. I thought they were all pullets but now I'm having doubts. Particularly about the white one, Pecky. Here are some photos, maybe someone will have...

I'm the latest contestant on the Pullet vs Cockerel game. "Fifi" is a French Black Copper Maran, wha

So "Fifi" or "Fofo" as my husband calls her/him, has been looking a bit rooster-y lately. Here's the thing, Fifi has a red comb and wattles, but so do all FBCM, or so it seems. My other two do not have such red combs and wattles yet but at 12 weeks or so, Fifi hasn't developed any of the other...

8 wk old EE Pic's theres a Bunch please help Sex. I read that Huge EE thread, still not sure.

Joe, Your ladies give me hope! I have a white/grey one that looks pretty similar to your girl. Actually, I thought it was pretty funny that I have three EE (sold as Ameraucanas by a breeder, but not sure if they are pure) that look just like your three! One white, one brown and one black! I...

BUNGALOW BUNGLE FINAL TOUCHES HOPEFULLY SOON SEE END OF THREAD

Kim, Thanks for all your updates. Because of this, I've decided to build my coop. I'm grumpy about it but I think it will be vastly better than anything I can buy. I priced out all the materials and it will be about $750 to $800 to build. This includes some pretty nice pine siding and does not...

BUNGALOW BUNGLE FINAL TOUCHES HOPEFULLY SOON SEE END OF THREAD

Classic. The closest tractor supply is Bakersfield. At least 100 miles away. The darn thing is ONLY available in stores. I guess that's my penance for living in LA... That would be pretty easy to mod. I'd just want it on stilts because I'm over 6' tall. That could be arranged easily enough...

BUNGALOW BUNGLE FINAL TOUCHES HOPEFULLY SOON SEE END OF THREAD

Eeek! It is small. Once you got the chickens in there for scale, it becomes evident. I wish they would put a chicken in front of every pre built coop. Looks like I'm building one myself. Ugh. I cannot find anything prefab I can work with. I'm really tall amd so is my husband, so I can't see...

BUNGALOW BUNGLE FINAL TOUCHES HOPEFULLY SOON SEE END OF THREAD

At least you can move it with a car jack! If I built it, you'd need a bobcat! I always over engineer things like this. I build for hurricanes in earthquake land. As far as the 3 men and one girl, this girl can move it, but I'm smart enough to ask the men to do it for me ;) I used to move stuff...

Interesting. I wonder if the CC coops is competition trying to drive people away? Where did you read the negative reviews? I hadn't seen any yet. It does seem kinda small for 6 birds. :/

I'd love to hear how it works out. I've been looking for reviews but it must be too new. When are you planning to order? My brooder is ready to explode with 6 four week old wild ones!! I am hesitant to build something, it will cost a fortune if I design it. I'm not sure I have the energy to do...

Horrible shipping experience and need some advice

Sorry to hear about your experience. I feel fortunate that my one that was dead on arrival and the other trampled was bad enough, but not what you had. That's truly awful and I hope you have a photo to send to whomever shipped to you. Not sure what happened in my case, but the most traumatic...

I know baby chicks often die but does anyone have any success stories? Able to nurse a sick one back

Nice! A little help isn't so bad, right? It's nice to hear positive stories. The chicks are so sweet and cute, it's hard to lose them. Maybe it gets easier, but I'm not so sure.

    Trader Joe's Eggs?

Actually the first store is in Pasadena, but I grew up shopping at the Huntington Beach store, it's been there forever! I think there may be more here in Pasadena than anywhere, I have at least 3 within a few miles of me. I wonder how "old" the eggs should be? Since the distribution center is...
