Trying to confirm a dozen chick’s breeds

I got 3 boys out of 7 chicks last year. Though those were from a farm store and I got some wrong breeds etc so hopefully this set will be better. I’m really hoping that we only get 1 boy if any, but we will see!

Which hen is laying this egg??

Huh interesting!! Well thanks for letting me know, maybe it isn’t doomed to stay a mystery forever lol. The only reason my guess was the light Brahma was because I found a larger range of possibilities of sizes and colors listed for them. I wonder why that is? I’m going to look some more.

Trying to confirm a dozen chick’s breeds

No problem! Here’s another one! I just adore the little fluffy cheeks on Easter eggers. This one is either #5 or #6 in the pic in the original post, which I am assuming is a blue Easter egger, pretty much confirmed today by these tiny little cheek poofs!

I am building a brooder this weekend for a dozen chicks, please help me design it!

Soooo it didn’t get finished in time, which is fine I have them in the spare room for now lol but check out what we have so far! It is about 4x6, and we’re going to install a couple roost bars and finish covering with plywood but leave some room up top for light and ventilation which we will...

Trying to confirm a dozen chick’s breeds

No, she is kind of settled in my hand making it look like it though so I can see why you ask. Out of these only one has feathered legs and that’s the buff Brahma. They are all just so darn cute at this age! (Then they are gangly awkward teens before they are beautiful lol)

Roo or Hen? HELP! (2 Easter Eggers)

If one is a boy it is Fluffy. To me looks like Fluffy’s comb is more red than the other’s, and the tail feathers look more pointy than the other’s, but I sure couldn’t say definitively! I love EEs and their fluffy cheeks!

Trying to confirm a dozen chick’s breeds

I plotted and got myself a dozen chicks that I’m hoping are all different breeds (except one). Unfortunately some are super similar and I think I just have to be patient and wait it out to see who develops which breed traits as they’re so similar as chicks. Here is my graphic of which chicks I...

Which hen is laying this egg??

I know I may never actually know the answer to this question, but it is driving me crazy! Reading up on all of my hens, I have not found any that are said to regularly lay this egg. So here is what I have if you want to help me figure out the mystery. I have 13 hens right now. I know which egg...

    My Pet Chicken (Hatchery)

Update: My 12 chicks arrived last Wednesday! As of tonight they’re all still alive and seem to be doing great. As far as I can tell they are all the breeds I ordered, but I won’t be able to tell for sure for a few weeks...and of course sexes. So far I’d be happy recommending MPC!

    My Pet Chicken (Hatchery)

I ordered a dozen chicks from MPC and am anxiously awaiting their arrival. So far I am very pleased with their ordering process. I put the order in earlier this spring to be delivered mid-May when I realized I didn't want a repeat of last year. (Last year I picked out 7 chicks from a farm store...

I am building a brooder this weekend for a dozen chicks, please help me design it!

That is great! Thanks for the input & the pictures. I am thinking since most of my wood is 8' something like a 4'x8' would likely be a good size. Mine will be in a barn, but the barn is not closed/secured at night (mostly closed, but the stall doors are open to the horse and alpaca runs) so I...

I am building a brooder this weekend for a dozen chicks, please help me design it!

Thanks for your input! I think part of my struggle with the water in the pack n play was because it was never completely level with the soft bottom.

I am building a brooder this weekend for a dozen chicks, please help me design it!

Thanks for the input! Were you using heat lamps or heat plates, and how long were they in it?

I am building a brooder this weekend for a dozen chicks, please help me design it!

I have a dozen chicks (mixed laying breeds but all full sized, no bantams) coming next week. I have current flock of 16 chickens that live in our old barn and free range on 5+/- acres during the day (technically 40 but they don't usually venture far into the cow pasture lol). I am actually going...

I was supposed to be a California White...

Oh wow, I found a picture of a splash Sumatra that looks just like her! I can see why you thought that. I guess we will see if we can figure out what color egg she lays when she starts laying :) Another suggestion I got is that she could be a Whiting True Blue. That hadn't crossed my mind...

I was supposed to be a California White...

Frazz - Yes, I understand I just hadn’t seen one that colortype, Google has though! Gray Farms - I don’t think she has a beard, but I’ll look closer when I’m out again. I just realized yesterday that she wasn’t what I had been assuming she was, so all this time I hadn’t been thinking of her as...

I was supposed to be a California White...

I’ve never seen an Easter Egger that color but I suppose it is possible! She doesn’t have the fluffy cheeks like the other EEs. No eggs yet, although I suspect she will be next. Her comb is redder now than in these pics. Most recent is the first one but that was a couple weeks ago. Of our new...

I was supposed to be a California White...

We got this chick as a baby fluff ball in March. She was supposed to be a California White. She is quite the character, first to fly up out of the brooder, first to fly up to perch on us ❤️ but she is not white. She has a few black spots like I’d expect. I thought maybe just strange coloring...

    Country livin’!

As planned we got 7 chicks a couple weeks ago and they've been living it up in the pack n play I set up in our dining room lol We're working on the chicken enclosure in the barn now, getting ready to put these chicks plus the new 8 we'll get on April 20 out there with some heat. They will...
