Can I safely use this chicken poop?

Thanks @Trish1974. That's what I was afraid of. What about side dressing the plants so it seeps in gradually? Otherwise, I'll dump the pails in my compost pile.

Can I safely use this chicken poop?

I have 4 - 5 gallon pails of chicken poop that was collected last summer. I never composted the poop. It has just been sitting in these pails all this time. Would this be safe to work into my garden soil around my young plants or might it burn them because it was never composted?

I've been a member here at BYC for over 3 years and it was only a few months ago that I seriously checked out SS. I think it is a good forum, and I would like to see some folks from this DIY/Self Sufficiency thread here at BYC come on over to SS, too! Some members here have so much to offer, and...

Hey Folks, I am sure a couple of you are aware of, in fact I've seen you there, of another forum sponsored by BYC. It is called SelfSufficient.com. SS is not nearly as large as BYC, and it has gone through it's ups and downs, but it is a GREAT place to discuss anything self sufficient. Good...

How much ink is in the cartridge? My printer knows if I use and off brand. Not that it stops me if it's a deal. The recent XL cartridges of HP Black are $26.00 Same amount as the name brand. I have a Canon Printer...in fact I have used this ink in a number of Canon printers...no problem.

LOL It is (Algonquian), meaning "stream between mountains" ...probably because of the area called the Delaware Water Gap...where the Delaware River separates NJ and PA.

Printer ink...if you don't mind using "no name" refills, they are dirt cheap at http://www.inktechnologies.com I have been using them for the past few years and they work as well as the brand name ink cartridges. I pay $5.50 for a no name where the brand name costs $19.95. And, if you order $50...

Like you Flocktastic, I was raised right outside a big city (NYC). We used to travel down to my grandparents' big farm in Culpeper, VA every summer when I was a kid. I fell in love with the farm and rural life, and knew I always wanted to live that way of life. My dream was to eventually live on...

When we make it, we do what is called a "hot pour" method. The mixture is poured into jars at about 200 degrees. Twist caps are applied, and as the jelly begins to cool, a vacuum is created and that makes an airtight seal. This is the commercial way of canning. What I would recommend that you...

From someone who does this for a living (see my sig)...Many factors can cause crystals, and grape jelly seems to be one of the more vulnerable ones for forming crystals. It may be caused by too much sugar or not cooking the mixture long enough for the sugar to fully dissolve. Another cause may...

You might also want to check with your municipality. Ours has shredded leaves and wood chips almost all year round, free for the taking.
