Homes needed for 3month Rhystud cockerels in Wales

We're a little older and developed, so here's some new glamour shots. Unfortunantly we're going to have to go soon, so hopefully there's a nice home out there?

Homes needed for 3month Rhystud cockerels in Wales

Three handsome cockerels looking for homes away from Mum and Dad. 4 months old. An experimental cross, so far they've come out very nicely with the fluffy cheeks from the Thüringian hen and the Lavander Peking cock's feathery feet. I've called them Rhystuds, after the local saint. Hoping to...

When to call it quits? Hatching problems

This is my first time incubating. I jerryrigged an emergency incubator in the kitchen cupboard, after two hens started fighting over brooding the eggs and some got broken I followed instructions I found online, but I don't have any temp or monitoring equipment. I was going to buy a purpose...

When to call it quits? Hatching problems

I'm fretting over this egg, which has been slowly splitting open over the last two days. I don't know were to call this one dead or wait and see. The eggs would be hatching now or any day now, and while there' no progress there's also no sign of anything that would overtly signal death, like a...

Lazy Cat Always Sleeping in Nests

I just finished building a new nest box for my chickens (the first ones wouldn't lay inside the coop, and they taught the habit the next generation). Wiggles the cat routinely occupies a cubby as his own personal bed. The chickens do not appreciate this, and there's always a lot of fretting and...

Wild duck eggs in owners yard, wants them gone, how do I incubator them

If you're in the UK, it's illegal to disturb a bird's nest with eggs in it. Additionally, it's highly discouraged to allow wild fowl to mix with domesticated fowl, because of the risk of avian flu. Trust me when I say DEFRA takes this very seriously, and you risk having your birds destroyed if...

Egg splitting, hatching oddly appro. 21 days

I had to put these two eggs into incubation after one got crack at the tip, when two hens tried to brood them and got into a fight. I sealed over the crack and they've developed normally, but starting last night the cracked egg began to split length wise. This is right at the time they should be...

    Should I Know This Stuff?

Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens is a good guide to raising poultry, I found it very complete. Don't worry about not knowing something and needing to ask questions - that's what this forum is for! Even the smartest person here doesn't know everything. You'll learn a lot by asking questions...

Constipation in 3 week old chicks

I've given them chick crumb, withou oats, and grit. They started eating it right away. They've also just had a warm bum soak and I put oil on their vents. The two that poorly are huddling on the hot water bottle. They were cheeping very loudly, but have calmed since their soak. There was no...

Constipation in 3 week old chicks

OK, I'll clean and oil them now and get grit when we go to town later.

Constipation in 3 week old chicks

Besides the messy bums, their vents are protruding and they're squatting without passing anything. This is the first time we've had chicks indoors, and we had to get them in fast on day 1 because the hen attacked and killed two. A friend showed us how to rig up a brooder with a hamster cage we...

Constipation in 3 week old chicks

I have chicks being brooded in the house since their hen rejected them. The weather was hot enough to put them out in the grass under the wire top of a hamster cage (with a brick on top of course) so they can scratch in the dirt for a few hours. The last few days have been raining, so they've...

Changed pellet brand, chickens won't eat

This was less of "we're cheap" and more "we don't have a car so carrying a 20 liter sack half an hour on the bus with a toddler is a pain in the backside"

    Constipated Chicken, What to do?

How would I treat constipation in a chick, 3 weeks? I think that is what is going on, their vent is protruding and then keep squatting to go without passing anything. Still eating and drinking.

Changed pellet brand, chickens won't eat

They did start eating the mash! The chief complainer is still complaining, but at least they ate. I'll keep my eye on them during the day to see if they actually finish it or it was just curiousity pecking.

Changed pellet brand, chickens won't eat

I can't return the new sack now that it's open. And I don't want to waste the money I spent if it's just that they're picky. I'll try the mash idea today. If they still refuse it, I'll assume something's wrong with the feed entirely.

Tried that, they picked the scratch out and ignored the rest.

Changed pellet brand, chickens won't eat

I have 3 bantams and 1 regular hen in a garden coop. I've been getting pellets from a shop for a few years, but because of the awkward weight of a full-size 20-liter bag, I switched to a different company when I found one that would deliver. And they're refusing to eat! They act like there is no...
