    Chicks dropping dead

I set the chicks up in my basement, it’s sealed and temp controlled plus a heat lamp. Absolutely nothing toxic down there, we don’t have natural gas and we use environmentally friendly cleaning products (all of which are upstairs). No signs of mice. I ONLY handle chicks to clean their set up...

    Chicks dropping dead

I wanted to refresh my flock of true ameraucanas so I purchased 10 chicks (last Friday) from a “reputable” breeder. On Monday (Yesterday) 4 of the chicks dropped dead (1 chick every couple hours) and as of today a fifth chick has just dropped dead. I have NEVER had a mortality rate like this...

Chick’s face growing crooked, unlike scissor beak

After the mention of potential nuero issues I checked the chick out closer and took some pics. The chick’s right side of its face looks normal. But the left side is severely hooked and the eye lid is pulled strangely.

Chick’s face growing crooked, unlike scissor beak

That’s a really good point, I was only thinking about it in terms of scissor beak, but I’m glad you pointed out potential neurological problems. I would hate for the chick to suffer bc I was only looking at the issue too narrow minded.

    Roo or Hen?

I’m new here and I know this is going to sound dumb but I have a trick for sexing chicks and I’m right almost 100% of the time. This is how I raise my chicks, I never handle them except to clean out their pens. I do this with all my chicks regardless of their origin (farm store vs show line)...

Chick’s face growing crooked, unlike scissor beak

I have 2 doz 7 wk old Banty chicks. Only this one chick (circled in photo) has their upper AND lower beak growing crooked in the SAME direction? It was first noticeable at 6wks so I began treating it as if scissor beak was going to occur. In the last week the beak has become significantly more...

Hen no longer walking, what am I overlooking?

UPDATE: She still is flopping onto her side, doesn't want to walk but is no longer tilted forward. She is having normal bowel movements and appears to be eating and drinking though I am still offering her water through a dropper that is dosed with corvid. The one thing that gives me hope is...

Hen no longer walking, what am I overlooking?

Ok, so I gave her a epsom salt bath, it didn't appear to help. But after I got back from the store she finally had a abnormal poo. It looks like a cocci poo so I mixed some corvid for her and have so far helped her drink twice tonight with a dropper. Fingers crossed it is something this simple...

Hen no longer walking, what am I overlooking?

I just went to check on her and I noticed a red ring in her eye. I'm thinking maybe she has a respiratory infection and I'm going to get a bottle of injectable lyquamycin. I would prefer to get tylan soluble but with corona cases the only vets that have experience with chickens are not accepting...

Hen no longer walking, what am I overlooking?

Yes, she can move her legs equally well, she does have a balance issue but its only/always on her left side where she has the badly curled toes. No, the way that she is sitting pictured in one of my posts above is the ONLY way I have ever seen her sit since this started (about 48 hours ago) and...

Hen no longer walking, what am I overlooking?

I don't know much about her history but I doubt she was vaccinated. I'll run to the store and get her chick vitamins because I would prefer to be safe than sorry. I don't know how quickly marek's disease presents itself but she doesn't have any paralysis or any other symptoms. When I pick her up...

Hen no longer walking, what am I overlooking?

Thank you so much for sharing that article. I read the entire thing, had to google a bunch of terms/symptoms that I am unfamiliar with. Nothing seems to match enough to help me pick a treatment direction. Her legs look perfectly healthy as do the legs of my other chickens. I can't find the...

Hen no longer walking, what am I overlooking?

This is how I keep finding her sitting, leaning against something with her left side and tilted forward with her bum up.

The bottoms of her feet are healthy looking, no scabs.

Hen no longer walking, what am I overlooking?

Polish x hen, approx 6 months old as of June 2020. Has started to lay one egg a day. She was given to me about 3 months ago, I quarantined her for 21 days and introduced her to my flock. No issues, no one picks on her. Her left leg has crooked toes that weren't fixed as a chick. Due to her toes...
