    Broody hen semi-abandon nest?

Thanks for the replies! No mites, plenty of DE and places for dirt baths. Also, the last time she went broody, she wouldn't get off the nest (fertilized eggs from online, damaged by post office and none were viable) for 5+ wks until I ordered chicks online and put them under her one night.

    Broody hen semi-abandon nest?

Hello! I need some help. I have a broody BO hen sitting on 13 bantam eggs. She was sitting great, only coming out for maybe an hour a day. Now, 2 weeks in and with the temps outside 55-60, she's off the nest for 6-8 hrs a day. I don't remember this being the case with any of the other broodies...

    Broken Toenail

The only claws I trim regularly are the fifth ties on my Salmon Faverolles. And we might do our rooster since he's tearing up or girls. You don't really need to do any regular trimming unless they get real long and are dangerous. They should keep them worn down by scratching. As far as...

Will baby go back to mom and be accepted after injury?

Ok, baby healed enough to go back out. Put her and the other chick we had with her for company, in the coop with mom and the issue was with Cricket(she makes little cricket sounds!), not mom. Blue had no issue taking them back, it just required sticking Cricket under Blue about 1500 times, then...

    Broken Toenail

I never had it happen with young ones, but 2 of my adult hens have broken their claws. Did the same as debid. Styptic powder and I use a pair of small animal slippers to keep them trimmed.

When can my "old" chicks and "new" chicks get put together?

When I got my first batch of 6 babies Salmon Faverolles, Speckled Sussex, Buff Orpington), it turned out 3 of them were cockerels. So I got 2 more (Welsummer, Easter Egger) to replace them. There was an age difference of 3 weeks. But the size difference was enough, we raised them separately...

Will baby go back to mom and be accepted after injury?

Well, the initial introduction was me sneaking in at midnight to trade eggs for babies. I was hoping to be able to just go do the same again. Sneak out at midnight and stick her back under mom.

Will baby go back to mom and be accepted after injury?

Well, she was a broody that I snuck the 5 babies under on Wed. They were about 3-4 days old at that time. I just want to be able to add her back in with the other 4 in a few days once she's better.

    Blue Splash Cochin rooster

Thank you! I would love to keep him. He's exactly what I would want in a rooster. So good with the girls, not aggressive or mean. But I live in the city and they are illegal.

Will baby go back to mom and be accepted after injury?

I have a week old bantam chick that fell out of the coop and got stuck btwn a straw bale and the fencing around the bottom of the coop. It was super cold and she nearly froze, but a mouse bit her on the foot while she was stuck and she lost 1 toe and I think might lose a second one. I'm going to...

Help! Injured sick chick need help!!!

She's a bantam about a week old. She's perked up, and is peeping a lot now. Her foot looks like she's damaged a toe and its going to come off. But her feet are feathered and so tiny, it's hard to do anything. For now I just wrapped it to keep it dry and stop the bleeding. Once I'm sure she's...

Help! Injured sick chick need help!!!

I found one of my babies this morning out of the coop and almost dead. We're warming it up and giving it warm sugar water, and it's peeped, but keeps pulling it's head back. There's a damaged foot, but I don't think that's the issue. Any ideas?

    Rooster free to good home

I need to re-home my Blue Splash Cochin cockerel. He's 8 months old, beautiful, and a great rooster, but I'm not allowed to have him. He's free to a good home, not freezer camp!

Will my rooster stop damaging my hens when he's older?

It was a hard decision for us too, but I know the flocks will be happier in the long run. Good luck to you!

Will my rooster stop damaging my hens when he's older?

My cockerel is a Blue Splash Cochin as well and also so very beautiful, but full sized. And my Blue cochin just went broody and I gave her 5 bantam chicks, which is another reason to re-home him. He would likely kill one of them trying to breed.

Nanny cam in the coop? Anyone ever done it?

Not paranoid at all! I'd like to know a cost as well bcuz I would love to have a way to watch inside the coop when I have a broody with babies and in the run to watch for any problems.
