Chicken won't come out of coop

We had a sick chicken and I posted a thread about putting her back with the flock after isolation. Thank you for your suggestions! She is doing ok - the other chickens for the most part ignore her and no one is actually pecking her - only dashing towards her a bit. Normal behaviour I think - as...

Thank you for the encouragement! :) She does have some places to get to. :)

Hens picking on one introduced back into flock

We had her in a dog crate where they could see each other several days. then we put her in the coop last night after dark. Set her on the roost. This morning no one seemed to notice her but as the day went on...

Hens picking on one introduced back into flock

We had to isolate a hen (flock about 14 weeks old ) that was sick. All ok now and vet said put her back with flock. Now the others are picking on her and she has to stay hidden. Is there any help for her? I cannot keep her isolated and now it is getting cold so she needs to be in coop. She is...

    Disease in chickens

Thank you for reply. Yes we have put 3 down so far thinking we had it stopped. For a couple days no new cases. So hard to put down but are working so hard to save the rest! She's doing better with our home grown remedies. We isolated her and the eye is open full time now and the other eye ok...

    Disease in chickens

Thank you EggSighted4Life for the insight and for all those links - they are all saved. So much good info! I'm amazed that antibiotics are ineffective for so many things. We have had flocks of chickens for about 20 years now and this is the first bunch that have had any health problems at all!

    Disease in chickens

Thank you for reply. I read on a Chicken Facebook page to give a high quality colloidal silver in the eyes since that is where this begins (Yes it is safe - I put this brand - Mesosilver -in my own eyes and my cats eyes) plus probiotics, silver, Vet RX and vitamin C internally. I have a call...

    Disease in chickens

I'm sorry my photo is sideways. We got a new flock of chickens and have had them about 2 months or so. Several have begun this way. Bad eye. Then they start not moving, then they die. Any idea what is going on? Another one showing symptoms this morning. She looks all wet because we sprayed some...

Thank you all for the answers! I think a few have found the roost. I hope they will all find it soon! :)

    Chicks won't get on roost

We have a new bunch of 18 chicks. They range from 2 to 4 months old and we have had them about 3 weeks. The place we got them from just had a box they went into a night. No roost so they slept on the floor in a bunch. We have a beautiful hen house that is 8' X 10' with ample room and several...

My rooster and his red bottom

Thank you for that info - a great help! :)

My rooster and his red bottom

And I was going to add - I would rather find out it is a hen pecking him rather than a disease that might spread. :)

My rooster and his red bottom

Thanks all for the comments! :) We sure do not see the hens pecking out feathers, but maybe. I had no idea about the layer feed. We will look into an all flock formula. They are all together so it is hard to not have him eat the oyster shell calcium. We have a roo so they can be together so we...

My rooster and his red bottom

Thank you for taking the time to comment! :) He eats the 16% layer that the hens are on. But I think his protein is ok. He looks beautiful everywhere else - super healthy feathers and actions. No hen is pecking on his bottom. It is not open at all - just red. I have read on this site - if will...

My rooster and his red bottom

My roo has this approx 4 inch spot on his hind end under his vent. It is bright red, but does not look like it is inflamed or broken open any place. But lots of broken off feathers. Just the tips of the feathers left in his skin. It is hard to see because the rest of his tail feather sort of...

    Rooster picking on 1 hen

Thank you. Sounds like a great method

    Rooster picking on 1 hen

Thank you for the suggestion. We have had such a hard time adding chickens to an existing flock in the past. It has caused so much more havoc in the flock that we will not try that at this time. :)
