    Post your FIRST EGG pics!

My Cuckoo Marans finally laid her first egg today!!! So excited! She is 24 weeks today. (Annoyed though because the Speckled Sussex I got with her isn't even close to laying yet!) She wasn't even showing any signs of being ready other than her comb and wattles. Here are 2 pictures of her egg...

    Faverolles Thread

I posted in a different thread, but I thought you guys might be able to give me some advice on my SF chick. I am concerned that it is a boy, but i am not sure. My pics aren't the best, but it gives a general idea. I'm hoping pullet, but knowing my luck (out of 6 chicks from local feed store, 3...

Also, I just went out and looked at the hackle feathers, and they ARE rounded at the bottom, NOT pointy! Hope feather shape holds true!

5 week old Salmon faverolle pullet or Cockerel?

I have the WORST luck with chicks from our local feed store. I have gotten 3 boys already, and I have a feeling that I have another. The issue is I can't have boys where I live (actually, I cant have chickens where i live, but shhh...). Please tell me if this 5 week old salmon fav is a boy or a...

Comment by 'powersurbanfarm' in article 'Reclaimed Chicken Coop'

X2 on farmerChef's comment. It took me a while to get back here, and I am glad I read the last post since I was about to type the exact same thing. Straight run is tricky. One of my first chicks was a bantam mottled cochin that was my favorite (when i would pick them up at night to put them in...

How accurate is the sexing of chicks?

Fisherman's wife, my local feed store claims 99% accuracy, however last summer I purchased 5 chicks from them, and 2 were roos. There is never a 100% chance of getting all girls. Good luck on not getting too many roos . breakfast for 2, yes, that is a roo, sorry to say.

Very cute little coop. I hate to burst your bubble (and I am no expert), but I am pretty sure the chick in the middle is a boy. Sorry...unless you want a roo...

    Hatchery Chicks With a Boody

My mom has had success with this for years. My silkie went broody for the first time last month, and I tried putting 2 chicks with her but she hadn't been broody enough, so I gave up. She was still broody after 4 weeks, so I tried again with 1 2 day old salmon favorelles chick that I put under...

    Chicken with infected knuckle??

No, the bottom of both feet are completely fine. It just seems like an infection under the scales. There are 2 scales on her outer toe on her right foot that are s blackish red color too but they are not as nearly irritated.

    Chicken with infected knuckle??

So I just noticed that my EE pullet(aprox. 8 months old) has an infection on the top of her feet where they bend. The left looks like an abcess, and the right one looks liket it had an abcess that has already popped. I got some epsom salt and soaked her feet this evening, and I also bought some...

    Silkie thread!

Does anyone have a silkie that tries to be the leader of the flock? My silkie (who is the second smallest in my flock of 7) has started being fairly bossy. whenever one of the bigger girls does her little squat, I fluff up their feathers, and Georgia (my 7 month old black silkie) will come over...

    Post your FIRST EGG pics!

I wasn't expecting it at all because the man I bought her from told me she was 100% Cuckoo marans, and it wasn't until she started getting her beard and muff that I thought she might be and EE mix. When I told him about it, he was in complete denial that the cross breeding could have happened...

Yesterday, my 27 week old single comb Cuckoo Marans/EE mix laid her first egg! It was small (as expected), but the color was not what I was expecting...have a look...

Cuckoo Marans/EE mix first egg not what I expected at all!

I am very happy that she is laying, but when my BO, BR, and GLW eggs are darker it makes me just a little sad. Always a little bit of a shock when you don't get what you expect to get. It is a nice egg, and she is a pretty bird, so I am still happy.

Cuckoo Marans/EE mix first egg not what I expected at all!

So this is my Cuckoo Marans/EE mix Buttercup: She laid her first egg today, and it is not what I was expecting. I though she would lay a nice chocolate colored egg, but this is what I got instead... To say I am underwhelmed is an understatement. I am excited that she laid her first...

    Silkie thread!

I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but I thought I would give it a shot. I have a silkie who is almost 6 months old. In november I thought she did the squat for me, so i waited and waited for her to lay an egg. Needless to say, she has yet to lay an egg but she keeps doing...

    Ready to lay?

This is Buttercup, my Americauna-Cuckoo Marans cross who is about 24 weeks old. Her comb all of a sudden doubled in size and got really red. I can't wait to see her eggs, so is she looking like she is going to lay soon?

    Pit Bull Pictures!

Our Lyla is a rescue pit (american staffordshire terrier) who is the best dog ever. She is a complete momma dog who takes care of any baby she sees, human or otherwise. There is not a single mean bone in her body. She is a big ol' couch potato who will crush you trying to be a lap dog and lick...
