    I'd suggest a modification. If you use the canary method and the new birds get sick but the canary doesn't your original flock are probably the carriers.

    That's the whole point of this. There are way too many variables for any square feet per chicken rule to have much meaning.

    If you ask Sumi she can link it to a thread. I'd question the PVC. Not just because of how slick it is but it transmits heat so well. It could lead to frostbite on the feet. Metal would also be a concern.
