Should I paint the inside of the coop to weather proof it?

I ended up sealing it with spar urethane, my old coop I painted white (which I also didn’t want to do to keep the natural wood color) but it definitely lightened it up. With the new coop I did transparent but gloss. I did use a high VOC paint but I’m giving it plenty of time to dry out and cure...

Should I paint the inside of the coop to weather proof it?

Ha, me to, me to. I’m definitely going to add more ventilation now. Good luck on your first winter, it’ll be great for them to have a covered run

Should I paint the inside of the coop to weather proof it?

Best of luck to you too. Honestly the amount of time we spend just trying to figure out how to do anything, realize we did it wrong, take it apart, and redo it is a lot. We also spent a good 2-3 hours trying to figure out how to figure out the nesting box roof pitch. We tried doing all this...

Should I paint the inside of the coop to weather proof it?

Let me tell you, its a lot. I think were over 1 grand at this point for what should have been a $3/400 coop. We had gone to the store to get some plywood, came back 2 weeks later to get some more of the same stuff and it was $7 more! That's great you were able to get free pallets. I had found...

Should I paint the inside of the coop to weather proof it?

You answered my question, thanks. I definitely wouldn't close up the vents but I can see how some people might think that makes it warmer. Don't you have problems keeping the water liquid putting it outside? M water freezes inside, I can't imagine how it'd hold up outside. That sounds great for...

Should I paint the inside of the coop to weather proof it?

When you say "give yourself an excuse to close up the coop" do you mean closing the vents? During winter I usually keep the front door closed unless it's a pretty sunny day just to air our the coop a bit, else Its closed along with the windows, then I just have the vents for air circulation...

Should I paint the inside of the coop to weather proof it?

It's definitely taken longer than we thought and cost WAY more than we ever expected. Granted we picked a terrible time to build a coop with the prices of wood sky rocketing, but wow, we were not expecting it to be so much.

Should I paint the inside of the coop to weather proof it?

We can get the screws out but it'd be pretty difficult, and It's pretty wedged in there. I think it would be easier just to drill holes.

Should I paint the inside of the coop to weather proof it?

Holy cow, It’s taken us 5 months and I’m still not done with the coop. We camp a lot in the summer and only ever worked on it on weekends we were available but it’s been taking us forever. Granted we have no idea what we’re doing and aren’t carpenters in the broadest definition of the word, but...

Should I paint the inside of the coop to weather proof it?

Wow, I really like how you did yours. I'll just stick with making the boards look like swiss cheese for now, but I'm going to keep your design in mind for any future projects,

Should I paint the inside of the coop to weather proof it?

If they're that cheap I might have to pick one up, thanks for the links! I've decided to seal the inside with some Minwax spar urethane oil based. We also have linoleum on the floor, honestly I'm surprised to find out some people don't, it really does make life much easier.

Should I paint the inside of the coop to weather proof it?

Technically I could remove it but it would be a huge pain, they're pretty wedged in there. I'll definitely add some holes though, that sounds like a good compromise.

Should I paint the inside of the coop to weather proof it?

After reading I might need more ventilation my mind went to the soffits as well. I had originally planned to leave some open for vents but we were having trouble figuring out how to do it and close it off with wire. Heres a picture of it from the outside.

Should I paint the inside of the coop to weather proof it?

Thanks for the measurements for how many vents I will need. Unfortunately I do not meet the requirements, I might be able to make a few easy vents in the top but I might hold off on that until I notice a problem. I was worried about having too many vents because of how cold it gets here. Iv'e...

Should I paint the inside of the coop to weather proof it?

Depends on how much a hygrometer is, I probably wouldn't get one unless I'm noticing any problems. Thanks for the suggestion though, I'll have to keep it in mind.

Should I paint the inside of the coop to weather proof it?

I think we have enough ventilation, or I hope we do. My coop is 6x7 with 2 decent sized vents up high in the front in back (picture below). There is also 2 large windows that can open, however I plan on keeping those closed in the winter for warmth reasons however it will allow plenty of airflow...

Should I paint the inside of the coop to weather proof it?

Hello, Our coop is insulated so we have very thin plywood covering all the insulation inside the coop. My question is, do we need to weatherproof the plywood so it doesn't hold moisture, get moldy over time, or warp? For the outside we used plywood as well and I used an exterior stain that water...
