My Hen has an oddly light orange colored comb!!

She is probably 26 to 29 months. And yes, she has already stopped laying for the winter. So nothing to worry about with the comb coloring? She has a sister same breed same age an she still has a nice red comb and has stopped laying.

My Hen has an oddly light orange colored comb!!

She is always outside unless it night, she goes in and roosts with the other chickens. I have 1 feeder in the coop with flock raiser in it because there are 2 younger chickens in with her that eat that. Sunlight is daily. She is usually on egg layer pellets but she has been on that flock raiser...

My Hen has an oddly light orange colored comb!!

So I am over on the west coast of Oregon. Its the beginning of fall and doesnt get that cold, 50s to high 60s in the day and low 50s and 40s at night. Does this have to do with the discoloring of her comb? Her comb is usually a pretty solid red and now its a light orangy pink.. I just noticed...

My Silkie and Her eggs...But when?

But, today I went out this morning to go take care of them, then I noticed she WAS interested in the food the roo has picked up. Idk if he was trying to "grap her head" and breed her or if he was just pecking her very hard. But... she kept coming back.

My Silkie and Her eggs...But when?

I have a black silkie bantam pullet and she is 5 months old. When do they start to lay? She hasnt shown any signs or even began to think of the idea of squatting. She RARELY comes over to the rooster trying to call when he found food. I have her in with 1 silkie bantam roo, 2 Andalusian laying...

    Cracked eggs when laid

It may be possible that the egg is hitting the wood outlining the sides and floor.

    Cracked eggs when laid

I have the same problem, it doesnt happen everyday for me though. My chickens peck the eggs but then stop for some reason. Try putting some fake eggs in to see if they are secretly pecking the real eggs, it may stop them. Or, do you have some type of "cushion" or bedding in their nesting boxes...

UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I finally finished setting up the coop and moved switched the 2 flocks coops. The Silkie roos flock got moved in here while the other flock got moved to the Silkie roos old coop. I am still building a gate but for now I have a strand of chicken wire over the entrance...
