That whole post made me all fuzzy and happy and also teary eyed.
I don't take offense to "just a chicken". In order for a person to utter those words they either, haven't known a chicken, or haven't taken the time to appreciate a chicken, and those two things are nothing but the total loss of...
So, I have too many chickens for my coop and run size. Se we got creative and added some space without actually making the run larger. Our coop is 3x4 with 6 feet of roost space and 2 nest boxes and the run is now 8x8 with a 3x4 porch. Also lots of perches in the run that they LOVE! We have 6 16...
OMG! I am looking through these pics with my fiance (we got our first chickens 4 months ago) and he is making the funniest comments about the molting chickens!
" Those bony wing feathers are nasty, they remind me of a fish carcass or something"
" HOW LONG DOES THIS LAST???"
" Um.... looks like...
I'll give it a go! I am always thinking up chicken names then cursing that I didn't think of it earlier and considering changing my chickens names, LOL!
2- (tiny one on the right)- Winkers

She is a BLRW with the wrong type of comb. I personally think the little wyandottes with the straight combs are really pretty. We have 2 BLRs with this type of comb and they both have really sweet faces.

I'm going to do the CD thing. It sounds easy except for the part where my fiance sees me and I have to explain what I'm doing...
I'm also growing a huge crop of corn this spring, maybe that will bring in some crows?

I am shaking from head to toe because of what just happened! A hawk went after my chicken while I was about 6 feet way!!! Here is what happened-
I was outside with my six 16 week old chickens. I had let them out to play for a while while I walked around with them carrying my hawk stick. They...
I would love to do this but I can't. I supervise my chickens from a close distance at all times when they are out of the coop. We don't have a hawk problem we have a hawk infestation. I pick up hawk feathers all the time, they perch on my CHAIR, they sit in the tree above my coop just...
I did this with corn and bread before I discovered the girls would just walk right in if I herded them and it worked 2 days in a row. The third day all 6 chickies stood just outside the fence looking at me smugly then took off when I tried to entice them. Now they wont even pay...
