8 week old chick with milky eyes, very limited vision

Sorry for the long delay! The chick is now an indoor pet. After watching how the other chickens attacked her, the hens with violence, the roosters with lacivious intent, despite her age and small stature, I realized that she needed to be apart. She has a sibling, who is twice her size. They...

8 week old chick with milky eyes, very limited vision

That must have been awful! I am so sorry! I sincerely hope that we won't be headed down that path! I wonder, they say that inbreeding is not really an issue in chickens. I always had my doubts about that. I wonder if it could play a part in either bird's situation. My birds do have some of...

8 week old chick with milky eyes, very limited vision

Really! Vitamin A. We have so much dust, that if it were that, I would expect to have seen it before. But, vitamin A. I will supplement! I guess it is not reversible though?

Lol! No, I did not take your comment as unkind. Honestly! I am just self conscious about asking for help, and then not providing what is needed to obtain it. I envy you your bilingual abilities! I know only one language, and some would say that I am not quite fluent in that one. :)

8 week old chick with milky eyes, very limited vision

Thank you so much for your time! Yes, both eyes are the same. I have wondered if it could be a deficiency of some sort? Some mineral she doesn't get? Is there a chicken version of scarlet fever, I wonder. I had one chick that was sick, early on. It recovered, and I no longer recall which...

8 week old chick with milky eyes, very limited vision

Pupil shape is normal. I will try again, today, to get better pics. I only have my phone, and she is not a diva, sadly. Thank you though!!

I'm sorry; she squirms a lot! Also, it seems to have added them too many times. Please let me know if you need me to try again. Thank you!!!

8 week old chick with milky eyes, very limited vision

Hello! I have a cuckoo marans hen that hatched two chicks about 8 weeks ago. One of the chicks has always looked smaller, and kind of puny. About a week ago, I noticed that the small chick's eyes are milky and bluish. She has to search to find food and water, often missing. I don't know if...

8 week chick- toes curled leg/foot twisted, joint swollen, can't walk well- help!

I sure would be interested to hear the experiences of others with slings and wheel chairs. My crippled hen, mentioned above, will use her "good" (I use the quotation marks, because, through years of lack of use, the originally unaffected leg is no longer straight and normal. She cannot use it...

8 week chick- toes curled leg/foot twisted, joint swollen, can't walk well- help!

I know that most people would say that, in this regard, I am crazy, or stupid, or cruel... Maybe I am. But of all the options, when I had a similar situation, this was the only choice possible for me. I had a friend, who is a schoolteacher, bring me a splash Orpington chick, that was about 10...

    Duckling with severe eye trauma

Thank you so much! I will look for it at the feed store. I admit that I didn't even think to go by there. Since the new law, I have given in to an infuriated attitude of futility about buying medications. That we have been legislated into having to get a permission slip, at great expense...

    Duckling with severe eye trauma

Hi everyone! I must apologize for the fact that I only ever seem to be here when I need help, these days. It's just that my only internet is my phone. I avoid browsing, as it is a pain. Anyway, one of our ducklings was, at breakfast this morning, sitting alone, eyes closed, looking miserable...

Q Mereks symptoms, and Polish Chickens. NOT urgent but relevant to my pullets all the same...

Thank you so much, for the info, and also the perspective. I forget about the flock animal aspect of the situation. I cannot tell you how often I have agonized over this issue, of doing my best to keep these birds alive. The philosophy I am the least in horror of, is that, it is clear to me...

    Shrinkwrapped????

You might consider dragging a warm, wet washcloth across the eggs a few times a day. I read somewhere that, since mama duck comes home wet from swimming, actual dampness on the eggs from time to time is closer to natural than just high humidity alone. They need that, too, of course....

Q Mereks symptoms, and Polish Chickens. NOT urgent but relevant to my pullets all the same...

Hi! I bought six pullets from TSC (our feed/equipment, greedy corporate, but convenient and seductive, store) about eight weeks ago. Two Wyandottes, two Marans, one Americauna and one Polish. They have lived alone, together, since. They were mostly in a brooder area inside, as our winter...

I believe that I have failed Emily. Think she IS egg bound. Perhaps too late.

Thank you for responding. I really appreciate your assistance. Emily has died. She was a wonderful, low maintenance bird. She just never caused any problem, was always where she was supposed to be, friendly, but not presumptuous. And beautiful. I wish I had more like her. Every year she...

I believe that I have failed Emily. Think she IS egg bound. Perhaps too late.

Still trying to figure this out. I notice that, when she exerts herself at all, not only does it cause her to lose Consciousness, and go limp, but I see now that it also causes her comb and wattles to become nearly black. So she probably is not getting enough oxygen somehow, right? Could it be...
