    Post your FIRST EGG pics!

Good morning, guys. Finally, our EE started laying - at about 30 weeks of age, and 2 1/2 months behind her sisters. A lovely, mint green egg. She's managed three eggs in four days - this, despite a drastic weather change from highs of 50 to 60 to a sudden snow/sleet storm. It's currently...

EE colouring / plumage - chicks vs/ adults --- Post your PICS!

Here is Bernadette as a baby: And here she is now, at 25 weeks. Still no eggs, but hopefully soon. She has the softest plumage - my 10 year old adores her. Her comb is redder now - maybe she'll start laying before long.

Visited a working ranch.... found a bantam egg in a knothole puddle.

Good for you! Hope you get many years of use from the incubator, too. Well, our bantam egg did not fare so well... it was a dud. Not sure if it was even fertile. After 9 days, candling showed nothing inside but what looked like murky egg-drop soup. Win some, lose some! It was worth a try...

Visited a working ranch.... found a bantam egg in a knothole puddle.

They charged $15. It's a Hova-Bator ciculated air, with automatic turners. Worked quite well the first time with our little duck egg. I took a wild guess that you may be in Linn County. If so, this information came up. If it's not correct, just try a search for Oregon county extension...

Visited a working ranch.... found a bantam egg in a knothole puddle.

So sorry for your loss of mama hen. How many days do the eggs have to go? Best wishes for a successful hatch. Oh, that little duckling stole our hearts. He came out just perfect! My daughters were so attached to him (or her!)... but we knew we couldn't keep him so we turned him over to a...

Visited a working ranch.... found a bantam egg in a knothole puddle.

...and they said I could keep it. While visiting this ranch, which is home to some heirloom bantams, I happened to look inside the knothole of a tree... and there was an egg. Several bantam hens and a few roos were in a large pen, but one rooster and two hens were running around and it had to...

New to Chickens - predator in Virginia that eats or bites neck and eats heads of chickens

So sorry to hear of your troubles. I know you realize this but it bears repeating: you've got to get a cover on the run as soon as possible. It's no problem for many kinds of predators to get to your birds when there's no top. All they have to do is climb up the sides. Raccoons and possums...

OMG, guys... this thead is an eye-opener! I don't remember our hens looking quite that bad when I was a kid... might be repressing that memory! Poor girls! But I can't help but giggle.

Or maybe Howard? He's kind of the self-proclaimed Daun Juan of the group, isn't he? And he definitely sports the brightest plumage, clothing-wise! :)
