So I'm trying to find out some numbers on chickens and egg laying. If a pullet lays it's first egg at 18-20 weeks, at what age do they start laying regularly? Would an 18 week old who has laid it's first egg lay another the next day? I would think not but someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
I am currently in the process of reading the below book on Woods Coops.

I am considering having one built on my property to house a number of chickens instead of using the plastic sheds I currently have. They have very poor ventilation and I'm...
I have only ever kept hens with some roosters here and there but I have been offered a bunch of free male chicks. Currently I have no chickens and have been itching to get back into keeping chickens anyway. Is it possible to keep only roosters? 20 or more say all together with no hens?
I currently have a plastic DIY shed that is 10' by 12'. When we tried to insulate it we didn't do that good of a job but tired our best. What we did was get those pink insulation panels, cut them appropriately and then wrapped them in a tarp. On the walls it works fine, but at the roof it won't...
I currently have a plastic DIY shed that is 10' by 12'. They have a very large area outside but I'm wondering how many chickens this would fit. Bared rocks or RIR's to be exact. I've kept chickens in it before but am looking to find out what the optimal number would be. Thanks.
I am trying to figure out how much feed newly hatched chicks will eat in the first week of having them. Does anyone have any approximations on this data? It would be of much help to me. Thanks in advance.
Hey guys and gals. So I'm working on a research project and figured I'd ask my questions here. I've only owned egg layers but the research I'm doing requires me to find information regarding meat birds.
So I've found a great little table for Cornish Cross's here:
What I am needing are...
I understand that Cornish X's should be slaughtered at about 9 weeks of age and males will be around 10 pounds, females around 8. Is this true? Or are these numbers too high?
I recenty got four rabbits and have no idea what breed they are. They are quite possibly mixes. It was 12 at night and I was picking up some kennels I had bought at an auction just a few hours before. A person came in to pick up some rabbits they bought, but only wanted two rabbits. (there were...

I need to know what the differences are between RIR pullets and cockerels. So if you could post cockerels and pullets that have grown to be either cockerels or pullets, so i can see the differences that would be great! I have two RIR's and need to know the sex of them. I posted another thread if...
O.k. I have heard that some ways to sex pullets from cockerals are:
Cockerals:
Darker color
Tail feathers are more curved
more redened and developed comb
Thick legs
longer legs
less feathered out
etc
Pullets:
Lighter colored comb
Less developed comb
Skinny legs
Shorter legs
more feathered...
Hi, I have this chick and I have no idea what it is. The parents may be either crosses or purbreds of cochins, chanteclers, Minorca's and/or mille fleur barbu d'uccle's.
I think she is a pullet becuase of her still small and yellowy rose or pea comb. (Does anybody know if it is a rose or...
These are my two Rhode Island Reds, I think one is a pullet (first pics) and the other is a cockereal (secound pics). The girl is much cakmer and nicer. I can pick her up and pet her withoput any problems. Where as the other one is a feisty little guy.
I think this is a pullet becuase it is...
This is Miller, he/she was bred where chanteclers, cochins, minorcas and mille fleur barbu d'uccle had free choice who to breed to. Could this be a white chantcler cross with a partridge chantecler? I think it has a pea or rose comb. Does anyone know the breed and/or gender?
This is...
I called the lady we bought the chicks from and she said that she has these breeds: Minorca, Chantecler, Cochin. Six of the chicks are pure or a mix of those breeds. Now these chicks could be purebreed's or a cochin bred with minorca or cochin/chantecler bred with minorca/cochin etc. I am just...

I have some pics of them and if you can tell which breeds they are with my descriptions, you'll win the contest. No one so far on BYC has gave me any ideas on to what breeds they are, so i'm guessing it's diffucult. I guees this adds alot of bragging rights!
This one is a bantam and looks...
OK, I NOW KNOW THAT THE CHICKS ARE EITHER PUREBRED OR CROSSES OF: MINORCA'S,CHANTECLER, COCHINS. I have some pics of them and if you can tell which breeds they are that would be great! I'll try to add a description on the chicks aswell. The descriptions are below the pictures, not above...
