Help with rescue! Hen fell off truck on highway (probably bound for slaughter)

I will look for thr asprin thread! That should help make her feel better, and I will position a heat lamp nearby tonight. Probably warm enough right now, but maybe thats why she was laying down this morning. Is it common for breeds used for meat to sleep standing up? Her legs are in perfect...

Help with rescue! Hen fell off truck on highway (probably bound for slaughter)

Our family was driving home from Holiday world yesterday when we saw a chicken sitting on the side of the road! As we drove along looking for a place to turn around, we saw 8 more dead chickens along the road. She appears to be young and she's VERY heavy so I assume she was bound for slaughter...

    Hatch not going well

I had 2 eggs hatch today (day 20) and 4 more have pipped. My incubator is currently at 100° with 79% humidity. The first two hatched around 12 hours after they pipped, but a third one who had zipped half way around her egg died. Now i am very worried for the others who pipped sometime this...

Light Brahma mix Cockeral - Decided to keep

We have a light brahma mix cockerel looking for a new home. I am not certain if he is mixed with one of our easter eggers or a sussex because he looks just like his daddy. He was hatched out by a local kindergarten class and was the only boy. He was initially raised indoors with his sisters and...

No problem all. I will get them on a higher protein food and extra vitamins so the babies should be nice and healthy. Oh, and how many eggs do you want? Could you send me a private message on here, and I can give you my phone number. Do you mind if I ask which school you work at? My youngest...

Review by '' on item 'Sussex'

We have a mixed flock and our SS are by far the most inquisitive of the group. Stubby (so named because she has a wry tail) is always the first to greet me when I come outside. This is in part because she is always the first to figure a way our of the run. She might be smarter than me... She...

Beltsville White Turkey Breeding Pair - Indianapolis, IN

I could provide some, if you'd like. Are you looking for turkey or chicken eggs? I only have the one jenny, but she did start laying again already. Her fertility has looked good too. I also have chickens as well as the turkeys. I have several easter egger hens that lay green, blue, and pink...

Beltsville White Turkey Breeding Pair - Indianapolis, IN

I am looking to re-home our Beltsville White turkeys. We really want them to go to a good home and want to avoid them becoming dinner if possible. They are both almost one year old, friendly, and get along well with our chickens. The jenny began laying a couple of months ago, but stopped when...

    Coop/Run Security confusion

I think GoChick has the right idea. Examine everyday for a possible breach in security, and keep an eye on those critters. I don't close my pop hole every night either.

A Little Something to Make You Mad

Ugh. Where did they come up with those sexing numbers. Lol...must be the worst chicken sex-er ever. Sigh...I can't even begin to rant about the rest of it....

What is your favorite thing about your coop?

Separate pens. My coop is a converted shed too. The back half is the main part of the coop, with nesting boxes, roosts, and a pop hole leading into the run. But the front half is divided into a second smaller coop with a roost to the left and a storage area to the right. The second smaller coop...

Good bushes to plant for chickens

My chickens like tomatoes! I planted 30 tomato plants for them last year, and while they trampled the vines a little bit, they were able to eat the tomatoes as they became ripe. :)
