That’s a good point. I know a lot of times chicks linger there for 3 or 4 weeks. They might get too tall. Especially the ducklings and cornish crosses. They might have to pull the old troughs out after all.
Oh, thank you for that photo! I know, right? I have seen metal stacking type brooders on Craigslist before, but they were pricey, and a two hour drive away. But these TSC ones look great, with that heat pad instead of lamps.
I hope so too.
This is a good point. From what they have told me...
I was just at TSC, and their Chick Days started about one hour before I got there. They have new bins!
No more stock tanks with filthy waters sitting in the shavings.
I wish I would have thought to take a picture. They are multi level brooders with plastic coated wire on the floor and slide...
Thank you for that information. I’m not in any hurry though, so I will just wait until I find some local ones. I’m taking a break from turkeys, but if I saw local Sweetgrass for sale, I think my break would be over. 😂
So I’m guessing that chick never hatched, or you would have posted about it?
I’ve had several late eggs that the veins still looked good, so I kept them in the incubator longer. But sooner or later the veins disintegrate. Any time I’ve had one that is way later than all the other chicks, it...
Those look like great photos to me! Been there done that with the not getting the photo to show the shade correctly. But I’ve had a lot of eggs like your photos, so I can imagine what yours look like in real life. Even eggs from the same hen vary a little day to day. I’d say those are keepers...
This reminds me of a BYH member that fell ill from mold in her house where she was remodeling. She stopped posting after that, and we all miss her. She checked in a couple of times, and then no more. Not suggesting that that might happen to you, just saying that people need to be really careful...
I agree they look raccoon-like, and also that the hopping is not raccoon-like. Every time I’ve seen a raccoon, they are just shuffling along, kind of waddling. That’s why I thought about squirrel.
I tried zooming in on the photos, in order to see if those are saddle feathers at the base of the tail. But I just can’t see them clearly enough. Probably the light and shadows of the photo. But her head and comb certainly look like a girl to me. I hope you will post more photos as he/she grows...
The lady I bought Rolo from said she got her chicks from Mt Healthy: https://www.mthealthy.com/birds/chocolate-orpington
Their website says their chocolate orpingtons are “fun sized”, so that makes me think they must not be English type. Unless they are, but have bantam mixed in. Maybe that’s...
Thank you. Yes, they say Orpingtons are slow to develop, so I bet he will look even better later on.
Thank you!
Thank you. He was raised as a pet “pullet” by the lady I bought him from, so he has always been personable. I think he has a friendly look.
Thank you.
I should try to get a picture...
I think your problem was raising the two new roosters separately from the main flock. If you would have integrated them as young chicks, and raised them alongside the older roosters, it would have been fine. But trying to bring in an adult rooster doesn’t work.
As for why your two older...
