This is Weird, and I really need to know if anyone has this problem

Sorry this whole this has been confusing, and ongoing for too long. But through process of elimination, the necropsy and plain good luck I am certain it's the chickens. My immune system is now very sensitive to the candida. My ex also had it and my dad got some fungal thing on the side of his...

This is Weird, and I really need to know if anyone has this problem

This built up over time, it didn't just hit at once, but now that it's here... I don't know any other way of getting rid of it other than to get rid of the chickens. I was really wanting to know if anyone else had this issue, I have already decided to get rid of the birds. With a choice of my...

This is Weird, and I really need to know if anyone has this problem

Actually, I tried that. Kefir for both of us- It didn't work for me and the hens eggs became chalky- but thank you for that tip. A vet said to use Acidified Sulfate and follow the directions until it clears up, but I am thinking it's in the soil ect and I need for it to clear up yesterday.

This is Weird, and I really need to know if anyone has this problem

OK this is a bit long but here goes. My baby chicks kept dying this past 6-9 months and some juvies too. For no reason. I went through the gamut trying different meds ect... finally I had enough and sent one in to have a necropsy. The diagnosis came back that it was most likely "oral thrush"...

    Mealworm farming

Yes, they will. They may not produce as fast but I had some in the garage all winter and they did just fine. Tons of worms in there. Which reminds me! Gotta go feed them some potatoes. These are the easiest things to grow, really. You can micro manage them if you want or not. Go ahead and...

Quote: VFEM Do you use whole almonds in the plum jam or almond flavoring. Do you have a recipe to share by any chance. I am looking online for a good one but yours sounds great. Lots of plums, pears, peaches right now I actually just add slivered almonds to the regular plum jam recipe. I...

Here is a fun little site for the worms. The internet has alot of them. http://www.javafinch.co.uk/feed/live/live.html They make it sound more complicated then it really is. I never add moisture other then potatoes or other veggies. I have one in the garage that has oodles of little worms...

    Mealworm farming

You will never have enough because the chickens will eat them like candy. Just breed what you can and have room for. Typically 20-30 beetles per shoebox and you can vary that to whatever size box or tote you use. Pupae = beetles so that's how many pupae you need per box.

    Mealworm farming

Unless you are extremely careless, they aren't getting out. They don't fly. I keep a screened lid on mine, not to keep them IN, but to keep weevil moths and anything else undesirable OUT. I have some in a shallow glass bowl (pupae) and they can't even crawl out of there. I did see one...

    Mealworm farming

Yes it is a little comical. You know what I like? I like to put my ear to the container and listen to the sound of them moving. It is rather loud when there are alot of them. Reminds me of rice krispies and the snap, crackle, pop.

Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Here's a question for all of the Marans breeders out there. It seems everytime I give my hens Kefir which is a great probiotic made from milk-- a few of them or even more start laying chalky colored eggs. One was almost purple and these are not the normal color of their typical eggs. It takes...

Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Quote: Hi and WELCOME! Number of eggs is not suppose to differ greatly between these 2 breeds, but I can tell you that my Marans are better layers than my Wellies. Egg size isn't too different...fact I think that my Wellies lay larger eggs than most of my Marans. Marans are WAAAAYYYYY...

    Emercency! Need responses now!

Quote: What would your guess be? I had a few get into something and although I didn't necropsy I think it was botulism by their symptoms. It took them 3 days though to pass. At 16 weeks could it have been egg bound? Being a barred rock they do start early. Can't think what else would come...
