I just purchased an Anatolian Shepard pup. I pick up on the 14th this month. It will be 8 weeks old. By the time he is 12 weeks old I should have him trained to protect my hens. The only reason I don’t want roosters is that I want my hens to lay eggs for sale.
Of course I know that because they only free range in the fenced in area which is about 10 acres. But when I accidentally leave a gate open you can guarantee that they will find it and try to investigate.
I live in central Florida so forage is always available except for bugs during the absolute coldest time . As for predators, as soon as they hear the hawks flying above they look up and run for cover. We have all types of predators, bobcats, pumas, bear plus the normal raccoons and such.
My flock have a good 22 acres to free range. What should I be feeding them? Should I keep food in the hen house, water? Or should I keep everything out of the house? Should they have separate pans for scratch feed, oyster shell, grit cracked corn or whole corn inside or outside the house. They...
All of the above! I will be separating her from the rest of the flock and put into her own house without a nesting box and just give her food and water and leave her in there alone for a few days . After a few days I will take her out of her haha hen jail and see what she does. If she continues...
I have a Buff Orpington that tends to stay in the nesting box a good portion of the day and night. Why is she doing that? I take her out of the box to try and get her with the other birds but she stays with them for a little eats some and then back in the nesting box. She is eatting fine and...
My coop has 4 boxes for egg laying, 2 on bottom 2 on top. Some of my girls have decided to squeeze into same box literally almost sitting on top of one another.
should I build more boxes on the lower level witch they see to like the best?
Nope they come out once in awhile they do eat and drink plenty. They just spend more time in than out. As far as bullying a little not much. Seems to be a normal amount of picking on just to show who is the head kingpin.
I recently added two Ameraucanas to my mixed 11 bird cast. I kept them separated from the others for a week then I put them in with the rest. They all roost together but during the day they spend the day on the roost in the coup?? The rest are out and about galavanting and have fun!
