    MJ's little flock

Not sure of the brand. I got it from Backyard Chicken Coops & it has been outside in the yard for about 6 years. The girls have put a huge dint in the foot but other than that it is in great nick.

Very possibly. I think she is quite stunning.

I'm not sure, Shad. She's the oldest of this lot & is only inside because the Vorwerks are so much bigger & she would be on her own. In a few weeks the Vorwerks should be able to integrate as they are pullets & this little lot can go in the small coop.

This is Oshina. She is a Belgian. Her feet feathers are all blue... ...And she has beautiful blue markings on her light buff.

Not a lot. They were chickeneers themselves & mostly just wanted to know what breed they were as they didn't recognize it as one of the more common ones out here.

    Ribh's D'Coopage

@BY Bob : I meant to say, while waiting for the boat we had a number of people come & chat about those Vorwerks, which no~one had ever seen before & wanted to know all about. I had quite the chickeny conversation. :lau One chap admitted to keeping RIRs. At least I knew what he was talking...

They are very Germanic. Organised, orderly, calm & I imagine productive, when we get to that point. Major panic the fist night because I man handled them into the coop ~ but once in they stayed. It was pretty late before they roosted last night & I'd put a light in the coop to help direct them...

    Ribh's D'Coopage

I have short listed my names ~ I think... The Vorwerks look like being Panya [mouse], Samurd [Kitten], Bennu [eagle girl] & Zahra [flower] ~ all Egyptian names. The next lot are Gyspsy names with one anomaly: Chavi [girl], Oshina [no meaning recorded], Shuri [sun child], Tsura [light of dawn]...

    Ribh's D'Coopage

Here beginneth the unedited version of our chicken trip: What I use for bringing chickens home is the cat carrier. Sometimes I borrow a spare one from the island dog groomers [yeah, I know; weird. We don't have essentials but we have a dog groomer ] Sometimes I just take a box. This...

    MJ's little flock

Yes. Super easy. Mine has 3 holes on the sides & pegs to fit them so you can keep the lid open while they learn that's where the food is then gradually lower it until they must step on the foot to open the lid. They have never got trapped either, which I was afraid of.

    MJ's little flock

I use a treadle feeder.... The wild birds haven't figured that out yet.
