Our power only just came back on. We have been without water and electricity since Monday 2 AM. It has been an adventure. It is finally up to 66 indoors I can't wait for the temps to rise more so I can shower and shave
I think 5 spurs per leg were the most I have ever seen images of and is an expected trait. However, most hatchery stock are producing single spurred ones. And yes I think all longtail breed of chicken are gorgeous. A quick google search will turn up more images than you can imagine.
So tonight we found Broodzilla with new chicks, so add another 5 to the mix. Hopefully the hawks will bring that number down. DW is starting to agree with me on a springtime cull. One blue is already growing out second spurs so that is a bonus from hatchery stock.
My back has been such a nightmare this week. So I dropped 50+ on this thing hoping for some non pharma relief. That is how desperate I am. Whenever I can convince my wife to give me a foot stomping to the back to make it crack it does help, but she is not in my families league for cracking backs.
Possibly do not get cutsie and hand feed them? Not one of my birds get close they get out of my space when I feed. That is something my entire flock respects(my space). Even the roosters do the "chicken little" if I am near.
Ok I tried one of those http://veestro.com/ chicken fried steaks. I was very unimpressed. Who puts ginger or whatever in a gravy sauce? Nothing about it was right so all that freezer space is DW's. It would be more appropriate as a UN emergency ration.
I wouldn't stress about it the silkies will do fine in a mixed flock. Now I free range them all so there is always somewhere they can escape if kept cooped you might run into issues. Currently I have 8 roosters in the flock with nearly 15-20 hens. The majority are there for stupid reasons plus...
So the last few days I have only been sleeping in two hour sets, if I ever get back to the entire 8 I will be set. It is mostly my back muscles hurt due to several having blown out so many discs going through life.
Looking it over I have to ask why do you have a poop board with no roost over it? I am referring to photo 1(nm) that is the metal pipe I did not see that. Please link your article as I would love to see it.
We have passed the 40F mark down here and it is still dropping. This house is only...
We are down to 52F here winds are quite blustery. The rains have stopped here and yet only half an inch. Made a quick run to the fruit store to load up on the stuff we wanted. DW was right I needed more than jeans and a t-shirt.
Looks like the front has not gotten to us yet but we received about 0.5 inches of steady rail overnight. Currently 63F down here. If my weatherfolk are right though it is going to be a nasty weather week.
Yes the black Sumatra has the good looks, 3 spur buds are coming in from what could tell. But they will all settle in well with time unless you have torn up hen backs. The breed will stand its ground if a hawk ever lands and never retreat just the hens retreat. The black does look as he is...
Sumatra was the correct information. Mine prefer to roost high and in the trees. They are flighty and can also fly. They can easily take a direct flight from point A to B with my fencing. They are good at being self sufficient here, but oh boy you do not turn your back on them in early spring...
