My hen keeps stealing all the eggs

Thanks everyone. I ordered a candler and marked the eggs so I know which ones are new. Funny enough I thought she was stealing all of them but I just found a pile of eggs under a tree. Guess one hen was smart and was hiding hers.

One of my poults isn't growing up

Out of 10 chicks, I have 5 left. One of those 5 isn't really growing much. The other 4 are nearly double the size now. The chick eats, drinks, doesn't have a pasty butt. Their going on 4 weeks old now. Any idea?

My hen keeps stealing all the eggs

I have 7 hens and normally get around 5 or 6 eggs a day. One of the hens went broody so I decided to just let her be and see what happens. She is now sitting on 16 eggs. Stupidly I forgot to mark them so I have no idea what ones are older and ones from today. She has been taking every egg for...

New to Turkeys - need advice on raising chicks

I have one of those heat plates so I can't measure the temperature. They arrived on Thursday. 1 died Friday, 1 Saturday and 2 yesterday. The 2 yesterday were found under the heat plate. They seemed to be doing fine. I put my chicks and turkeys together and ducks alone now. Will see how it goes.

    Turkey Advice

Humm. My apologies. The hatchery I order from, Cackle, has told me that more than a few times. Also states it on their Turkey care instructions. They told me it was the reason I lost 4 so far.

New to Turkeys - need advice on raising chicks

So I got 10 Turkey chicks last week. 4 of them have already died. The hatchery is resending me them but they said to put my Chicken chicks and Turkey chicks together. I thought it was best to keep them separate due to food differences. In total I have 5 ducks, 15 chickens and 6 turkeys chicks, 2...

    Turkey Advice

Get a few chicks to put with them. I've been told that baby turkeys are dumb as rocks and will starve themselves to death unless they have someone to show how to eat. I got 10 myself few weeks ago and have already lost 4 of them.

    Canadian geese

Canadian geese are federal regulated birds. I don't know the regulations but there is some hurdles for raising canadians. One I know you have to pin/clip their wings, otherwise they can cause huge issues when trying to fly since you don't have a way to teach them.

    Abandoned goose

Not MN DNR... their answer this time of year is "its goose season, deal with it how you choose". I've put in my chicken food mixed with scratch, appears to be eating it.

    Abandoned goose

My neighbors had a goose living in their pond. It just showed up one day and wouldn't leave. Didn't seem to know how to fly and was very friendly to them, eating out of their hands. Unfortunately it was driving their dog nuts so I was tasked with dealing with it. 45 mins later and thanks to my...

    Joined the duck owners club!

Now that my 9 hens and 1 rooster are pretty much self sustained in their current space, I wanted to add some ducks. Silly me stopped at the farm store to get feed and ended up getting 5 ducklings and 1 six month old drake. When I got them home I tried to put them all together but the drake...

    New rooster to flock

So little update - I had him in his small pen next to the hen run for 3 days. He was pacing up and down today and scratching at the fence. Since I was out there cleaning I put him in with just the hens for a bit and there was no sign of aggression from ether of them. Then I put the chicks in...

How many chickens in a 8x12 coop?

Humm I guess I'll stick to the simple shed, add a nesting area and a 2nd floor roost. Will do the electric for lights and put it on a timer.

    New rooster to flock

He is doing alright in his little pen. Doesn't seem the happiest but he will be fine. However he is LOUD... hopefully no complaints from neighbors.

    New rooster to flock

Ayam cemani Which is not a great egg laying breed so I won't want to hatch the eggs from him. But seeing some black eggs would be cool.

How many chickens in a 8x12 coop?

I'm in Minnesota, close to Minneapolis. Goal wouldn't be to keep it really warm, just keep the chill down. Was thinking of the tile warmer fabric, laying tile over it then cover in 3" of sand. The sand would become a heat sink and keep it somewhat warm. Only reason I thought to insulate it was...
