    Stray female ring neck pheasant

Oh no that’s too bad :( But maybe she just moved on! Positive thinking!

    Baby chicks and seed starting

I’d say it depends on your light; the one I’m using right now is like having a whole tanning bed in one bulb, it’ll cause damage if you look at it. I guess I’d just make sure it doesn’t glare directly on them :)

It is. It’s also a hound dog. And my last name. And the name of my business, I do leather tanning, thus, “Black & Tan”....I thought it was catchy ;)

It’s sunny but chilly here, getting a little late in the day for coffee so I’ve got a pot of cider simmering on the stove...plenty for all!

Lots of people do it, I don’t know why. IMO sweet and meat shouldn’t mix, unless it’s honey-garlic wings, and even they straddle the line with all the garlic

Well, he likes maple syrup on bacon, but a lot of quebecers do. I leave when he’s making his special pancakes - and he ALWAYS offers to make me one, with a big grin lol. I tried it once, I’d rather eat a bowl of spiders

Hen with badly injured femur at the top.

Poor girl! By now the bone has certainly healed, perhaps in two pieces but certainly out of place or fragmented if you can feel jagged bits. I’ve set and splinted a fair few broken legs, but I’m no expert! Is vet an option? I think an X-ray is your best bet, and decide from there.

Yep. And that’s after the poor pancake has been rolled around a mix of tuna and pickle. Pancake abuse!

Oh Ive seen recipes like that in older cookbooks! And grapes in chicken salad :( Worst thing I’ve seen in my kitchen is when my French-Canadian boyfriend makes tunapancakes. They’re disgusting. I make nice, normal pancakes that are appropriately drowned in maple syrup (no fake crap here)...

@KDOGG331 youre everywhere lol! I just found this thread, look forward to flipping thru the old pages. It’ll be nice to chat with some older folks, I hadn’t really realized till just lately how many kids are on byc....I’m sure they mean well, but if I’m looking for advice on something I’d like...

ROTFLMAO sorry! They’re so ubiquitous in Canada I forgot no one else calls them that! You might call them “sugar pie”, they’re in a little pastry shell, like the size of a muffin bottom, and the filling is butter, brown sugar, usually maple syrup and I think egg yolk, caramelized together then...

    Hawk attack!

They don’t usually attack if you’re right there, so I’m sure you could move the girls from the coop to the tractor without too much trouble. You may have hawks that live nearby but since this was your first attack it could have been a transient bird, or by the sounds of it a pair looking for a...

    Feeding Wild Birds

Not a lot here right now, lots of chickadees of course and Canada jays, blue jays, I have noticed that there haven’t been any pine grosbeaks here this year, and we usually get a ton in winter. I saved a white wing crossbill last week, such a neat little bird! He’d been hit and was sitting on...
