Getting new parakeet but am really worried

I would suggest offering them vegetables still. Budgies can still have seeds in their diet, but it shouldn't be their whole diet. I don't give any of my parrots seeds in their daily diet, I give them a veggie mix for breakfast and pellets in the evening. One other benefit of withholding seeds...

One of my birds keeps pecking another specific quail.

I would try giving them more space than that. 1 square foot is the minimum, but I'd aim to give them maximum space possible, especially if there is bullying.

Here's their call, it's not too noisy, not as loud as a rooster.

What age of chicks to buy?

I'm starting to think I'm paying too much for my quails. If you really don't want too many males, I'd go with the older ones. You still can tame older birds. and you probably save money on a heat lamp and brooder (unless I've been paying too much for heat lamps too). It also depends though on...

I would also highly recommend checking out birdtricks. They are professional parrot trainers and have very helpful content on their channel. I use their videos all the time and got my parrot breakfast recipe (which I also highly recommend) from their online store...

Intro and Question about Keeping Quail Safe!

Hi and welcome to BYC! I LOVE quails and get so excited when other people want to try them out too. Have you considered what species you're after? I would recommend japanese (coturnix) quails to you as they are probably some of the easiest and they're generally less skittish. Just have the...

    Parrot Chat

For most native animals you need a licence to own them. This includes all reptiles, all mammals (well you can only own two species) and all but 41 species of birds. These 41 species can be owned without a licence. None of my parrots actually require a licence to own. I'm just curious as to why...

Parrots can make amazing pets. But should they even be pets?

Thanks for you contribution to the conversation and you dedication to you feathered friends :) I use info from birdtricks all the time. I got my parrot diet from their natural feeding system cookbooks. I even attended a masterclass with them last year. They are amazing people, they've changed...

Live quail birds and eggs for incubating / sale

Sorry, I'm not after more quails currently. I was just wondering whether Australia was included on that list as there is pretty strict laws here on that.

If this discussion on wing-clipping is to be continued, perhaps it should be moved to it's own thread. @KikiDeAnime has already made it clear that she does not want to clip her parrot's wings, I don't think it is worth discussing further on this thread :)

Considering getting Quails, any advice welcome!

Do you know what species you're wanting? How many? Are you wanting them for meat, eggs, pets? They have different requirements to chickens, but if you set them up right, they're fairly easy to care for.

Live quail birds and eggs for incubating / sale

By any country, I guess you don't mean Australia? We have very strict laws on importing animals so I don't see how you'd deliver here.

    Quail Hatching

I've had king quails hatch on day 18, but I've also had them hatch on day 20 and 22. It can vary for many reasons. I've not had to assist a hatch yet, so just give them a chance and only worry if it's well past the due date.

One of my birds keeps pecking another specific quail.

What species of quail are they? How many males and females are in the enclosure? How big is the enclosure? Any other relevant information?
