CHICKEN SWAPS OF NH SWAP LISTINGS

I am looking for a drake preferably pekin, cayuga or buff. I remember seeing a cayuga drake in milford, but hubby wouldn't let me buy then. I have 6 hens and no daddy duck. Anyone got one for sale? I can't make it to the next swap but plan on going to the merrimack one.

    Chick is lethargic...help?

How do his wings look? Are they droopy compared to your healthy chicks? You are doing the right things if he is going to make it. Sorry about him, they are so cute and tiny but sometimes it just isn't meant to be.

    meat birds with layers?

I got several cornish cross chicks with my chick order, but they are way bigger than the rest. I am worried they will pick on the littler ones. Any advice on whether to separate them or not? Thanks!

    Duck missing, water predator??

Update*** The ducks survived and it was not an otter, but a 5# mink. Caught it using a trap baited with fresh chicken.

Micro eggs should I be concerned?Updated! Apparently so...

howdy fellow NHer. I'd say not to worry. The weather has been crazy cold, then warm, greyish. I think it is rough on the chickens, even with a light on. I also have a BR that randomly lays "yolkless" eggs. You might see if she is actually laying 2 eggs a day, first being normal and second being...

    Broody or not?

My girls are 10 months old, and wondering when one might go broody. Does a broody hen sit on the nest all night or leave it and go up to perch with the rest of the flock? Breeds are WR, BR, RIR, EE. Thanks!

    Duck missing, water predator??

Yes I think the Pekin will be okay, kept her in the house 24hrs, and the bites stopped bleeding pretty fast yesterday put blue kote on it, now it is a blue/white pekin. But in total the otter stole 3 ducks (runner, swedish, cayuga) and we had an injured swedish a few months back. At least now we...

    Duck missing, water predator??

Quote: Update*** I found the otter yesterday evening with a large pekin in its mouth, luckily it was a small otter so I think the duck will be okay but there must be a family of otters, cause we lost a cayuga yesterday too. We have two traps next to the duck house. The otters jarred the pen...

    Duck missing, water predator??

Our stream (I'd call it a river, but in NH it is a brook or stream) is 40-50 ft wide and a depth of 6 ft or less. The ducks still refuse to go in the water. We haven't lost any other animals, and we went hunting to find feathers or the carcass, found nothing. There is a female snapping turtle...

    Duck missing, water predator??

My hubby came in saying a duck was missing. They are let out around 7am and head over to the stream. Well, now they are terrified to get in the water. Didn't see anything, don't really have "predators" in these parts but there are snapping turtles in the stream. Are they able to take a full size...

What's the most "comfortable" flock size for 1 person to care for?

Howdy from my experience the fewer the chickens the more they love you (like less than 5). I also had a rooster for the gals but we had over two acres for them to "free range". We currently have 12 chickens (we are a family of 6) and they aren't really a chore just have to give food and water...

pekin owners, how do u like your ducks?

I have two 10 week old female pekins and only complaint is that they are chow hounds--didn't realize how much they eat compared to others.

    SLW roo's time has come

The deed is done. He went without a fight, kinda like he knew it was coming. Lesson learned: what you think is a sharp knife, is probably not sharp enough. Next time I will get the scalpel.

    SLW roo's time has come

Bobby was our adopted rooster for our 12 gals. He is 23 weeks, and in the past couple days started going after the kids and even my husband. Can't have that, so I went to the coop tonight and put him in a dog kennel. This will be our first chicken processing, I did a baby turkey last week. I...

turkey poult killed by our dog..

We had 2 naragannsett turkey poults (one male, one female) they were almost 9 weeks old. Found our dog over the bird, didn't see any "death" wounds but figured the neck was broken cause its head was limp. I skinned it and put it in the frig, didn't want to waste the good meat. Pitty, my son was...
