    Losing Down Feathers

Hey! Original poster here. She was either molting or broody, she’s fine now and has grown back her feathers. Mine look awful right now because they’re molting so it may be that too!

    Losing Down Feathers

She is always my broody girl. She was broody last year but didn’t pluck her feathers out, but she definitely turns into a bitty when she goes broody.

    Losing Down Feathers

Went out to the coop this morning, and there were a ton of the shorter downy feathers all over the floor. No blood or anything to suggest a predator. Checked all the girls over, all acting normal except one has an almost bald spot on her stomach. It’s covered with her top layer of feathers now...

    Vent gleet?

Okay thank you so much. I’ll be honest, I had heard about vent gleet but wasn’t sure what it was exactly.

    Vent gleet?

This morning I noticed one of my girls had a slightly poopy bottom. She wouldn’t let me get close enough to get a great picture, but is this just poop or vent gleet? What should I do? I was planning on giving electrolytes to everyone like I usually do every few weeks.

    Hen Gasping for Air

Hello. I found one of my hens grasping for air this morning. I figured it was an emergency, so I took her to the vet. A few weeks ago, she had sneezed for 2 days, but had since stopped and I hadn’t heard her do it again. She was eating, trying to escape the run, acting like her normal self...

    Sneezing

Thank you all. Yesterday she didn’t sneeze while I was in there, and today she met me at the door sneezing. Still no other symptoms, no eye swelling or mucous from the nose or mouth. I did put down new shavings two days ago.

    Sneezing

How common is sneezing? One of my girls sneezed maybe 3 times while I was in the run today over the course of 20 minutes. She didn’t have swollen eyes or any discharge from her mouth or nose. How concerned should I be?

    Shaking Head

I took a good look at her this morning and stayed in the coop while they were eating. She’s eating great, if not more than some of the others. She’s still very active, just the occasional head shake.

    Shaking Head

I’ve not noticed any differences in breathing or nasal discharge. Fingers crossed she just needs some electrolytes

    Shaking Head

I believe she is eating and drinking enough. I need to watch closer, but she was eating when I was in the coop this evening. What are signs of congestion in chickens? I’m not sure what to look for.

    Shaking Head

I have one of my girls just go through a molt. She’s got most of her feathers back, but I think she’s still got a few patches coming in. She’s active and eats well, but today I noticed her comb was kind of pale. She’s shaking her head every couple minutes too, like she’s trying to get something...

    Watery poop

Today in the run I noticed two sets of what looked like yellowish watery droppings. They had clearly been there for a minute because they weren’t fresh. None of my chickens are acting off, should I be concerned right now or just keep an eye out?

    Early Molting?

Went in to the coop today and it was like she dropped these during the day. She had lost a couple tail feathers I had noticed, but can molting around the head and neck happen in a matter of hours?

    Early Molting?

Just thought I’d add some pics to show y’all what I mean.

    Early Molting?

I’ve had my chickens since April of this year. I didn’t think I’d have a molt this year, everything I’ve read says about 18 months. But I’ve had a chicken loosing feathers from her head and neck, and what looks like new feathers starting to replace them. No roosters, only hens. How early CAN...

    Pecked to death

Our Sunday project was giving them a few new nesting boxes! They weren’t sure of them at first but I bought some ceramic eggs to put in there and they laid in them yesterday.

    Pecked to death

I’ve had them since this April. I’ve had them since this April, so about 7 months old. They’re all laying. I haven’t tried that yet, but I will!

    Pecked to death

I haven’t had a feed change, but they refuse to lay in the egg boxes I have for them. They lay in an open corner. What percentage of protein is good for them? They’re on a layer crumble from Rural King. I think I know the culprit, she ran the others off from the feeder earlier while I was in there.
