    *Injured House Sparrow

Well, as we are always rescuing something over here at least a few times a month, the newest addition was a female House Sparrow that went down during a monsoon storm, lost all of it's tail feathers and got an ouch on it's wing. We have been caring for it for the last week and a half letting her...

Rooster Has a solid ball shaped mass in neck, can't hold head up anymore.

Alright, time for an update. So sorry for everyone who has been waiting. Husband got home late yesterday, so I ended up trying to see what was inside of the mass this evening. We've been very busy. Now, he was holding his head up this evening, but the mass did not seem any smaller. He also is no...

For some reason this just now popped up, after I responded to Camochick96. I will go ahead and see if I can get anything to drain out this evening once my husband is home. Thank you so much for the words of wisdom, it's greatly appreciated!

It feels very solid. Not squishy at all, so I don't think it would be an abscess? Unless it is just so full that it feels solid. I'm not sure how to tell the difference. I wonder if I should try draining it, or even just puncturing it a little to see if any fluid drains out. What do you think? I...

    Breed guess?

Could be a Black Australorp bantam then. Though some Easter Eggers have colored legs too. Ugh. I forgot about that. Just remembered. Lol. Sorry!! This one is a tricky one. How old is she? Was she already laying with your friend, or has she not started yet?

I don't believe it was any warmer. I will check tomorrow. At first glance I thought His crop was just full, then I realized it was too high up. I appreciate the attempt for helping! : ) I hope someone has experience with something similar. Without knowing what's wrong with him, I don't know if...

Also, I did check out his throat very thoroughly. I can feel that everything is normal in there. It seems to start right below his ear, and upper neck, but does not go into his throat.

I think the discoloration of the comb is due to his lack of water for a few days as it got bigger. That is already brightening up a bit since I brought him in. Those pictures were taken a few days ago when we first found out. His throat is clear, it seems to be hanging more on the outside, which...

    Breed guess?

Easter Eggers can literally be any color, lol. And they can lay many different colors of eggs. I can't stand trying to figure them out. What color are her legs, she could also be an Australorp bantam maybe. If she has grey/black legs that would point towards that. If she is a mix it will be hard...

I am looking for someone who can help me identify what is going on with my roo, and what we can do to help him here at home. I have an Australorp/RIR roo that I hatched out last year, and he is now fully mature. We noticed a few days ago that he could not lift his head and I immediately brought...

This is something that I've been wanting to implement out in my actual coop. (Giant shed converted) Not sure if quail could use it, but it's worth looking into, thanks for reminding me about that! We are in Phoenix, so it's screaming hot here as well. That's brilliant with the frozen milk jug.

I've had a couple from a hatchery act that way, it's rare that I've seen it, but they actually jumped up and pecked my side because I wasn't getting their feed fast enough! Lol.

Review by '' on item 'Plastic Flip Top Poultry Feeder'

So, this is the cheapest feeder to get at our feed store. So for some reason I keep buying them. Lol. That said, I can't stand them for grown hens! They don't work. They get kicked open within 30 seconds of being placed down on the ground, which is frustrating because it takes me 3 minutes to...

So, my loving and thoughtful husband knew I was trying to figure out a way for my suicidal quail hatchlings to drink water without drowning themselves. The next time he went to our local feed store for pig and chicken feed he asked them if they had any such thing as a "quail waterer", and here...

So, my sweet husband got this for me for Valentine's Day knowing that I wanted an actual incubator(typically use home made). I was so absolutely thrilled I instantly plugged it in and got it ready for eggs. Already know how to incubate eggs, already have experience and done tons of research. I...

It's very important that our birds be friendly, as we have kids. We have raised several of these birds and I'm currently hatching some too! We are very hands on with our flock and our girl Raven is very very personable. She was actually kept inside the house for a bit and loved being around...

    What's wrong with Paddles?!

I'm not a vet, but I don't see anything that resembles an infection, typically with lash egg it doesn't really resemble an egg, it's pus, egg pieces, and just lots of nasty stuff. This simply looks like a shell-less egg or very soft shelled egg, which doesn't usually signify infection. I would...
