Hen lays soft shell and egg yolk/white separately and consistently

I did not try to cut them in half, they were kind of soft, its hard to describe. Unfortunately I do not have any pictures, but I will make sure to take some next time it happens.

Hen lays soft shell and egg yolk/white separately and consistently

She has access to free choice oyster shells, so if she needed more calcium she is able to get it. I'm guessing its maybe just her system, but hopefully there is something I can do.

Hen lays soft shell and egg yolk/white separately and consistently

Hello, I have a golden wyandotte that lays (or more accurately poops out) just a soft shell and the yolk/whites of the egg separately, usually on the dropping board, about 2 times a week for a few weeks now. Sometimes she'll change it up by laying the egg all intact, except its just the...

Treat for roundworms again 3 months after first treatment after seeing worms in poop??

I had known they would be reinfected, but I thought it would have taken longer for them to get so many for them to start showing up in their droppings, especially since its winter. Unfortunately I cannot rotate runs as I have a small property in a suburb. I can however change out run bedding...

Treat for roundworms again 3 months after first treatment after seeing worms in poop??

Hello, I treated my flock with Safe guard goat dewormer as some were getting sick and I suspected it was worms in early November. After worming them, I was able to confirm that they had roundworms. After doing some research I saw that they are impossible to get rid of, however they can be...

Marek's? Not sure what is wrong, hen suddenly losing weight but still eating

Little update, since last time she has somehow stayed alive but she is not improving, I can not even tell when I am holding her she is so skinny and she still eats a lot. Her legs are still very weak and she cannot stay upright well, almost as if she has no balance and trouble using her legs...

Marek's? Not sure what is wrong, hen suddenly losing weight but still eating

Hello, I have a black Austrolorp, 1 year old, that has suddenly taken a turn for the worst. A month ago she was very healthy, she was large, laying eggs, active, with a big and bright red comb. Suddenly I noticed she was starting to lose weight and becoming more lethargic. Her comb had begun to...

Do I need to clean up droppings with worms after deworming?

Ah ok, that clears things up. So, just to clarify, as long as I worm them say 2 times a year, they will have roundworms but they won't be to the point they are now where its actually effecting their health and laying? Also, if the roundworm cycle is unavoidable, why do you bother cleaning up the...

Do I need to clean up droppings with worms after deworming?

Based on what i've read and what you've said, it sounds impossible to break the roundworm cycle since it stays in the soil, even if poop was picked up everyday there's still a great chance they came in contact with it. So it sounds like they will always have roundworms as I can't stop them from...

Do I need to clean up droppings with worms after deworming?

You mentioned picking up feces in your pens several times a day, but if the Excreted worms are harmless, why is this necessary? If I were to cover up the soil with a layer of woodchips (which I planned on doing anyways) would this help end the cycle since they won't have access to the soil? I...

Do I need to clean up droppings with worms after deworming?

Hello, This may be a stupid question, but I just want to make sure. I dewormed my flock 2 days ago with Safe Guard and today I noticed some of their droppings had roundworms in it (dead? I think, I hope?), Do I need to pick up and discard all the droppings with worms or is it fine to just leave...

Blood in chicken coop, what is it?

Here is the picture of the bird: Unfortunately I just cleaned out the dropping board and there hasn't been any bloody poop i've found (sometimes they won't poop blood for a few days then start again). What I can say is that the majority of bloody poops are not like the picture I put in the...

Blood in chicken coop, what is it?

Hi, thought I'd give you an update on the situation. I finished treating with Corid a few weeks ago and gave some direct doses to the sickest ones as suggested. The Corid unfortanately had no impact, I am still getting bloody poop and the birds are still acting sick, so I'm pretty sure its not...

Sick young hen, not sure what's wrong

Hello, I have a black austrolorp, a year old, that has suddenly become sick within the last 3 days. My chickens have been pooping blood recently (not sure if it's all of them or just a few) and some have been acting sick, but not to the extent of the austrolorp. I have treated them with Corid...

How long to use Safe Guard goat dewormer for unknown kind of worms

Hello, I purchased some safe guard goat dewormer to worm my chickens. It is too expensive to get a fecal test to find out which kind they had or even if they have any, so I wanted to use a pretty general dewormer. My hens have been sick recently and pooping blood, I treated for coccidiosis but...

Treated chickens with Corid for 7 days and still getting bloody poop

I have a lot of vets near me and I've called all of them and only one was willing to test the chicken poop and it would be $50 to do, a fecal test by all means would be great for knowing what they have but I would rather avoid the cost, is there anything for worms that is basically an all in one...

Treated chickens with Corid for 7 days and still getting bloody poop

Hello, I've never had any bloody poop until last week when I introduced 2 new birds to the flock. Within 2 days I started noticing the bloody poop and one of the new ones was acting especially sick. I started treating them when I noticed as I already had Corid on hand from treating the flock a...

Blood in chicken coop, what is it?

The coop is quite clean as the dropping board catches the majority of the poop which I will clean out but I think a full coop cleaning is unnecessary. Unfortunately it has been raining non-stop here for the past few days so the run is a muddy mess. I put her back with the flock after her toe...
