I have several golden duckwing pheonix birds and was hoping to breed them. Then I was told the golden duckwings won’t breed true and that in order to breed this color you have to cross a silver and a bb red. I was wondering what would be the outcome of a golden duckwing x golden duckwing...
I’ve been taking him outside to walk around. I’ve been mixing his food and electrolytes and water to make a mash which I make him eat twice a day because he won’t eat other wise. He doesn’t seem to be in pain when I touch his beak. Today I gave him aspirin and he was more willing to eat afterwards.
I haven’t seen much improvement and he’s starting to get thinner. I’ve mixed an aspirin solution and gave him that hoping it might help. His poop is green which I understand means he isn’t eating. There’s also some yellowish parts that are thick and stretchy. The picture shows this. Is there...
He’s been in this pen for a while nothing has changed. He hasn’t seemed nervous or anything like that. His feeder is just smooth plastic that I don’t know how it would hurt anything.
He’s in a wire cage in our shop with another hen as they are part of my breeding programs. I’ve never had any other birds with this issue in the same type of penning. If this is the cause what would be my next step
Several days ago I noticed one of my roosters wasn’t as lively as usual and was just slightly more hunched than he should have been. His crop was empty but he wasn’t abnormally thin just not as bulky as usual. He was sitting with his eyes close way more than he should have been and they were...
Once they get older you can also look at crest shape. Females are typically rounder while males aren’t as round and often have spanglers. I think that’s the right term but it’s basically really thin feathers coming from the crest that are longer. Crowing is also a pretty good indicator.
The brown chick will likely be partridge. The grayish chick will probably be a variation of blue. It’s kind of hard to tell with the lighting but I would guess blue or lavender. Silkies are pretty hard to sex from photos so you’ll have to wait until they grow out.
I got a buttercup pullet earlier this year. In my eyes she’s a really nice bird and has been doing well at shows this summer. If at all possible I want to breed her and have some chicks for next year. She has a really nice comb and fits to the standard in most ways. I’ve been struggling to find...
It looks like he’s trying to eat but can’t actually swallow the food. He’s starting to get thin. I made him a mash so the food wouldn’t get stuck to his mucus. He instantly went to eating but after every couple bites strings of food would come out. Then he’d shake his head and the food would go...
I don’t think any of these factors is a for sure tell tale sign that a bird with lay blue eggs. Polish can have beards and muffs but lay white eggs. Breeds like buckeyes have pea combs but don’t lay blue eggs. Just because one characteristic of a breed carries over to an EE doesn’t necessarily...
