    Does anyone know why an egg has spots on the outside sometimes?

    I have a chicken that is laying eggs with spots. They almost look like paint splatters. She lays a brown egg and the spots are a slightly lighter shade of brown. She just started doing this. She started laying about 8 -12 weeks ago and is a barred rock.

    egg color change - according to diet ?

    Has anyone found that the egg color of a hen changes with what they are eating? .....Or does the egg color just change all the time anyway. I'm not talking brown to blue, just that some days the eggs are a darker or lighter shade than the day before. I'm wondering why this happens?
