Hatching eggs that are different ages.

Hi Everybody, We purchased twelve hatching eggs for our broody Cuckoo Marans. We put six under her on the evening of May 16th. We put another six under her May 19th. Do you think we have a chance of hatching the later eggs? Or is three days going to be too long if the first six hatch on time?

    Will they starve?

We've always used a container with a spring feeder for feeding our chickens. Our new flock don't seem interested in using it at all. After 8 weeks, and various attempts at teaching them, they still won't use it. They are still here so must be eating something. Would they really starve rather...

    Gape worm?

Hi All, I've got a nasty feeling our small flock of 12 chickens has succumbed to a gape worm infestation. At least 4 of them are showing symptoms and one has died. I have Flubenvet Pellets. Are these OK to use on 7 week old chickens? Their ages range from 7 week up to 22 weeks.

Three seem clear, what about the fourth???

These four Bantams came from 12 eggs listed below. 2 Orpington 2 Silver Yoko 2 Mixed Yoko 2 Naked Neck 2 Old English Game 2 Sulmtaler Now the Naked neck was tricky :lau The two "brown" ones with eye stripes; I was leaning towards OEG originally, but they are now noticeably elongating so I'm...

Broody Bantam part 3 (The end)

I thought I'd post this short story as it will be the last clutch our broody bantam hatches. We purchased two full size breed chicks in May. Both one week old hens, a Speckledy and Bluebell. They were kept indoors. Around the same time we purchased twelve bantam hatching eggs as our Bantam...

    Broody Bantam part 2

After leaving our Bantam to her own devices she went back to laying and rejoined the flock in the day. A few weeks later she went broody again!! We purchased some "fertile" Bantam eggs again to give her another try. This time they were really fertile and 10 our of twelve hatched!! The only issue...

    A word of warning....

Just a heads up to the people with automatic doors on their coops. Please check all your chickens are inside as the nights draw in. Here in the UK the days are getting rapidly shorter and on Saturday four of our flock were still out when the door closed due to the failing light. Unfortunately a...

    Bantams???

Now these Wyandotte bantams were supposed to silver laced or possibly golden. I had my doubts then. Now, at 16 weeks, it's clear they are not. Any guesses? They are great birds, but not as described. There's a greenish tinge to some of the feathers. :idunno

    Broody Bantam

Hi, I have an extremely broody bantam and I'm thinking of getting half a dozen hatching eggs for her to hatch. It may be a silly question, but do you think think the other chickens in the pen / coop will accept the chicks? She is in with four red sex link chickens, ex farm egg layers.

    Drakes now Ducks

Hi, We recently picked up a couple of "ducks" for the garden. Eight weeks in and not a quack to be heard. We were told they were 90% likely female, but now doubt has set in. They both still "peep" a bit, though one is deeper than the other. I've seen videos of really young ducklings quacking...
