checked an egg, membrane was HARD to get through but chick was fully developed, looked like it could have walked had it's eyes been open - there was still some yolk or other fluid but not much -
Would a chick alive, be moving when we candled?
Or, as soon as we opened would a live but dying...
I candled today - we are at the "less than" home stretch meaning, they should hatch today or tomorrow (at the LATEST)
Well, most eggs had what looked like a small black blob in them and not viable. however, a couple were so "dark" that we could not candle them at all.
What does that mean? I can...
Asking because I think I have 42 duds. I am scared they are dead. Today is technically day 25 and nothing.
On a couple I saw what looks like a pencil like line in a weird circle but not like what pipping photos I saw look like.
This sucks
If there is any true hope, please give it but - if...
OK got the quail eggs on March 6th in the afternoon - put in incubator.
Counted that as day one.
Today is March 30, which is now day 25
I have a few eggs that have what looks like a small pencil line circle now but NOT the pipping type photos I've seen at all.
I did have a time maybe on the...
Tonight is technically the beginning of "day 23"...nothing yet.
Should I be concerned?
Worried as we did have a power outage and the eggs were down to 80 for a couple of hours on and off (we used a generator that we know would not last the whole night to at least heat them a bit...on and off...
So the eggs are not being turned; should hatch I guess in about three days.
Concern: Had a power outage the other night (four nights ago) and they were without electricity (heat and turning through night) for about five hours BUT in between the five hours we had a generator sooo
it was
one hour...
OK LAST time I go my info from one source before finding this place.. (thank God)....
Anyway, got them on March 6th....
some people say stop at 18, some at 20 - HELP! (turning)
A standard egg turner.....
Do I put cotton in the egg cup to help keep the quail eggs a bit stable if I haven't purchased an actual egg turner specific for the smaller eggs???
I have heard people say that on day say, 18, they use the egg carton method.... does this mean when they take the turner out they put each egg in a carton to hatch?
We have normal F and C thermometers... is this "wet bulb"???
I am confused. Have bobwhite quail and it says 99-102 degrees but "wet bulb" reading should be only in the mid 80s??? How do I know!
Have Little Giant and they give two regular thermometers now - they said this is a new thing they...
So, my first batch did not turn out - we are doing 50+ bob white quail and got a Little Giant Still Air. I am still waiting for me hydrometer.... threw some water in there just to get it going.....
WISH US LUCK!
This all started innocently. Homeschool project. Now, it is an addiction.
I did...
We broke two eggs - like over easy - nothing at all, were told it was that those eggs were not fertilized. So we open a third "heavy" one and it was a little chick, that looked very formed, eyes and all, but just dead... was it perhaps a live but when we opened it died or was it already dead -...
And do you think that electronic is OK to have in the Little Giant or, another type?
I have heard the Little Giant one is junk so I am looking to purchase and wanted advice...
PS. I have an egg turner now...
and...I heard instead of opening the bater I could use a small funnel and straw to put...
My first time doing this....
so we are for sure late on the cortunix... and as people have said, we opened two. Well, I made a perfect over easy egg over the course of the month.
What was that about?
(using a small dome)
We are now doing to use the Little Giant with egg turner. Screw this...
I didn't know about this group - I had an ebay incubator and eggs and it just said to fill up a leg of the bater with water...so that is what we did. I think all along it was now too low of humidity.
I have started with more which someone said is about right (slight humidity on plastic) and wish...
