Pullet passed this - do I need to worry?

Do I need to worry about this? This pullet has just started laying, she is not exhibiting signs of illness or stress, is just standing rather still and looking confused more than anything. Her comb is red, no runny eyes or nose, no coughing sneezing or gaping, she has had Ivermectin against...

    Dirty bunny bum

I am relatively new to rabbits and need a little advice, please. Miss Bun always has packed poo on her butt. I do not see her eating her cecal (spelling?) droppings anymore, either. She gets Oxbow Timothy hay, about 1/8 cup of pellets a day - mix of Purina Show Chow and a good pellet that is...

cure for soft shell egg - 5 months now

I have one pullet who has been laying for over 5 months and she still lays a totally or half soft shelled egg. Only once is a while will she lay a good egg. Is there anything I can do, or is this just her personal problem? There is always oyster shell available, plus FLock BLock, which I...

    Pullet started laying, then stopped-permanently.

I have a black Orp pullet who laid 3 or 4 eggs a week for a month at 5 1/2 months old. She then quit and has not laid another egg for over a month. I checked for problems early on, but she seems fine - any ideas? DO pullets ever get a false start like that?

Wormed twice by accident- is this a problem?

My greedy little 6 month old Blue Orpington hen grabbed two doses of Valbazen by accident - anyone know if this will cause problems? She seemed fine all day yesterday and this morning, but thought I should ask. Thanks!

    Answer to the Delaware Dilemma

I have received an answer from Walt Leonard concerning the SOP definition and description on the Delaware. I did ask him a few questions to clarify a few things I still didn't understand, being a newbie, and I am going to quote him exactly wherever I can. I am making bold some of the info that...

Attention Delaware Lovers: Please Read! NEW UPDATE POST #23

First, please understand I am NOT reopening the argument about tail barring. However, since I am still relatively new to the Heritage Delaware, having only had them since November of '09, I thought I would contact the APA and some other Delaware breeders and see what they could tell me about the...

Please define "positive black" and "positive white"

I have been reading my SOP like a good little scholar, but I don't understand what "positive black" and "positive white" are. And what does "short of positive black" and "short of positive white" mean? Thanks for the help!

Edited title: Where is brown coming from? Pics incl.

I have three two week old Blue Orp roo x Delaware hen chicks. Two had head spots, I understand they are cockerels. One of those is growing in barred feathers, so will have the cuckoo pattern and one is very light blue. The third chick looks black, does not have a head spot, so I am assuming it's...

Valentina sings the egg song for Katia

I have two beautiful black Orp girls, one of whom just started laying this week. Katia clucks and grumbles, but does not sing the egg song. She has, after much fussing around, scratching and rearranging of nesting materials, produced four lovely little eggs since Sunday. I thought it was odd...

    Harriet's Dustbathing 101 Class of 2010

My yacky free ranging Harriet was the last chicken I ever thought would go broody, but she did, and I slipped a few Delaware eggs under her- only one Dellie hatched, the other three are Orp/Del crosses, who just happen to be grandchildren of Suede- and little stinkers, all. Harriet is proving to...

mama hen not eating? Can't tell-no adult poops

Harriet hatched four chicks last Saturday morning- she encourages the chicks to eat and drink, but I don't ever see her eating or drinking. Not even the scrambled egg treat I have given them. She hatched these chicks out on hay in my horse barn, and I enclosed the area she is in for protection...

I predilled- screws STILL won't go all the way in!

I have to use 3 1/2 inch nails on the beams for the roof as they are 2 x 3 studs. A few went in all the way, the rest wouldn't go. I took them out and drilled into the wood- they STILL will not to all the way down. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to get a longer drill bit and drill all the...

    Orpington laying question

I have three lovely BBS Orp pullets that are almost five months old, and one of them is getting very red in the comb and wattles- when do Orpingtons usually start to lay? I thought I wouldn't see any signs till closer to 7 months. Thanks in advance for any answers!
