    First time in wading pool

At three weeks old, our American Buffs have outgrown pretty much everything else they could swim in. So today they got to play in a wading pool for the first time. They were splashing all over, then I turned the camera on my phone on and for a while they did nothing. Then decided to have fun again.

Re-purposed Swing Set For a Run

It finally stopped raining here about mid-night. Today the sun showed itself which is nice. We put up a new play pen outside for the baby geese since they'd outgrown their smaller one. We repurposed an old swing set frame we had to give them a safe and secure place so they can start spending the...

    New Nest Boxes

After about two hours of assembling, we finally have our new nest boxes! I really like them because I can fold the walking boards up in the evening to keep the ladies from trying to roost on them (or in the boxes) which was a problem with our old wooden nest boxes. And then in the morning when...

How well do Polish handle the cold?

I read that Polish chickens don't handle the cold well. I live in central Kansas (out where eastern Kansas bleeds into western). I will be having Golden Polish and Buff Laced Polish chickens for the first time. How well will they deal with Kansas winters?

    Hoop Run

When we brought home our new baby chickens last month, we started looking at the hen house and pen area and decided it needed renovation. For one, we had torn down the old pen, which wasn't tall enough anyway. In the past, we've always dealt with escaping chickens. They would inevitably fly...

    Finally! They're here!

I woke up extra early (again. I work second shift hours) and waited for the phone call from the post office. 6am rolls around....nothing. 6:30, 6:45 and finally 7:00 rolls around. Still nothing. So I called my post office thinking maybe they just hadn't had a chance to call. Nope, no baby geese...

    Brewers Yeast or Wheat Germ?

Is there any reason one is better than the other? Like brewer's yeast, wheat germ is high in B vitamins. It also is a good source for vitamin E, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium and zinc. So are the interchangeable or is Brewer's Yeast higher in niacin?

    The waiting is killing me

I have everything ready, turned on the light so it would be toasty warm, woke up extra early so I would be ready when the call came from the post office. Then, no call came. So I called them. Nope, no goslings. So I went and checked my order to make sure of the date and realized I had missed...

    Hello!

I've been on this forum for a few days now and just now found the intro thread. I'm an author, a wife and a mother of three with a new flock of chickens (we've had them for years but our old flock was getting pretty old so they all left late last summer which gave us time to revamp the pen and...

    Ready for Goslings

Okay, I think I have everything set up for my goslings. They will be here Tuesday morning. I have a gosling round pen for them to start out in. And this for their feed They will also get time outside each day to munch on any grass or dandelions that they want. Will that be okay...

    Can geese eat alfalfa?

I know they love grass and other such green forage, but what about in winter? Can they eat things like chopped alfalfa as a source of roughage?

    McMurray Hatchery

I ordered my first American Buff goslings through McMurray and they are set to arrive in less than a week. Thanks to a bit of advice on here, I spent quite a bit of time reading through lots of threads on here about American geese and learned a lot. One thing I noticed when reading through the...

    First Geese

We've had chickens for years and in the past we've had ducks, however the three American Buff goslings arriving next week will be our first geese. Is there anything nutritional or healthwise we should know? Does any one here have this kind of goose? What are they like?
