so I made the Rubbermaid nesting boxes for my hens. Have two, one has hay and the other has pine shavings. But my RIR made her own nest from pine needles and leaves in the back corner of the coop. Not a problem i thought. Well then my other RIR decided to use the same nest. Not a problem they...
i collected a poopy egg this morning. Should I wash it and refrigerate or just leave as is. I know if you wash it, it takes off the protection layer, so just checking on what to do.
im getting a coupe of baby chicks this week. They will be a week old. I use pine shavings in my main coop. Should I use pine shavings for their brooder box? I will have the border box inside my house until they get older
we are going this week to pick out a couple of new baby chicks they are chocolate Orpingtons. Is there anything we should be looking for. Our other chickens were older when we got them so this will be our first time with babies. We have a Chocolate Orpington Rooster and are planning on breeding them
ive had my flock for 6 weeks. I have two 11 month old RIRs and two 12 month old australorps. We were told that they had not Layed eggs yet and probably would soon. Is it normal that they are still not laying. I figure it's because there new to me and they are getting used to their new home...
i see so many people on here talking about petting their chickens. Mine run from me. I know I've only had them all for 4 weeks. I have 2 RIR hens, 2 Ausralarps hens and 3 7 week old blue cooper marrans and a Chocalate Orpington rooster. Why do they run from me?
im still new to my chickens. For the last couple of days my rooster has been chasing all my hens. In a flighty like skip. Is this normal and what does it mean?
i converted a home built wood shed into a coop. On the back wall behind the purch I put in is a shelf and my hens & rooster love laying on it. Should I add some hay to the shelf and since they lay there so much should I clean the poop everyday? I'm also planning to knock out one of the two...
im very new to the chicken farming. I've only had my coop for 2 day. Today my oldest (1year) black Australorp started being aggressive with my other hens. She's not aggressive with the rooster. Is this normal or should I do something? Thanks for your advice
this picture is first thing in the mornings when the coop has the most sunlight. Do we need a light inside the coop?
Well apparently it will not upload my photo. My new chickens never came out of the coop today. It was their first day in our coop
last night was our first night with our 4 hens and 1 rooster. The hens slept inside the coop and the rooster slept outside in the pin area is that normal?
I'm getting hens for the first time and ages are 5 weeks to 6 months old. 5 week old hens are blue cooper Marans. Do they need extra heating.? Or do we just put leaves or something in the coop to help keep floor warm.
