    Goose bored with eggs???

My mama goose was doing so well - faithfully setting on a nest of 10 eggs for almost a month now, that were due to hatch next week. Now all of a sudden, she seems to have lost interest. She goes in there and sets for short periods off and on instead of continuously. No changes around here to...

    sloshy eggs?

I had to totally dismantle and rebuild my goose's nest because of a terrible ant infestation I found in their coop. In the process, while p;icking up the eggs, two of them sounded sloshy, like there was water in them-the remaining 10 felt nice and heavy. I threw those two out without cracking...

    sp;raying for roaches?

Can I spray for roaches in and out of my chicken and goose coop? When I open the doors in the morning, it is disgusting. At least 50-60 scatter everywhere. I don't eat my old chicken's occasional eggs anymore, since she has been getting into the medicated chick starter for the pullets. So...

medicated chick starter bad for hens?

Will it hurt my old (6yrs) hen to eat the medicated chick starter I have out for my pullets? She gets into it occasionally when I have them all out together (trying to integrate). I have been putting it up out of her reach when I can, but sometimes I forget.

    no water at night?

Just wondering if I can stop putting water and food in goose coop at night. I have a male and female in there and here lately, every AM when I go out to let them out, they have spilled the whole bucket, which seeps over to where Mrs. Goose has her nest and also will start rotting out the floor...

    "senior citizen" chickens

I'm just wondering how old a hen can truly be expected to live with good care. My two remaining ladies are 5 years old. "Oprah" is starting to lose weight and getting bony though still active. (She lays horrible thin shelled eggs that are totally useless). This is what happened to my other...

ivermectin for horses-can it be used for chickens?

Just wondering if Ivermectin I use on horses (paste) can be used on chickens. Thought I read on forum in past that people have used a pea sized dab into chickens mouths. Have used the Wazine in water, but heard Ivemectin good for mites. Any thoughts? And can I use this after I already used Wazine?

Need advice to avoid losing any more chickens!

It's too late for two of my girls, 1 died 2 weeks ago, 1 in the late fall. Both had exactly same symptoms-started losing weight, breastbones became prominent, then felt like nothing but feathers and bones. Combs became pale and shriveled. Would not dust bathe, kinda stood around and looked...

    chicken fencing

Just curious if anyone has any tricks for keeping your chicken wire fencing nice and straight when installing on a hill. Mine seems to get so wavy no matter how tight I pull it. I'm putting up new and would like it to to look as nice as possible. Thanks

Saggy goose? Laid too many eggs?

Have a 1 yr old Toulouse mix goose has laid total of 33 eggs to date. Started 2-12 and STILL laying e/o day. She is not setting. Started to and then lost interest. She is extremely loose and saggy between her legs to the point she is almost dragging on ground. Still seems happy, eating...

    33 Eggs!!!!!?????

OK - Mrs. Goose has now laid a total of 33 eggs. First 10 I took away and now there are 23 eggs in her nest. Oldest one from 3-1. She is not setting but maybe 30 min daily and at nite. I am going to leave them all thru next week, although I'm sure they are no good. She is so saggy she looks...

broody?not broody? never gonna be broody?

I have a toulouse/chinese mixed goose and gander 1 yr old. Mrs. Goose started laying 2-12 and so far has laid 27 eggs. Took the first 10 away and let her have rest. She went broody 1 1/2 week ago. Was happy she did, but now she has totally lost interest in setting going on a week now. Would...

    sick chicken - need advice

Have a white leghorn about 3 yrs old. First noticed she was losing weight maybe 6 wks ago. Didn't worry too much - she has always been skinniest in group. Then her comb and wattle began to get pale which it still is and seemed to shrink. She mostly stands around, sometimes puffed up, sometimes...
