    Soooo I have a roo

Ok, so I didn’t want a roo, only bought pullets and hens, and so of course one of my pullets is a rooster. So is 1 roo for 14 hens a good ratio? Right now only about half of them are mature and egg laying but within a month or so the others will be old enough. I have read that one for every 6-8...

    RIR maybe a roo

I have 2 RIRs that I’ve had since February. Both hatched Feb 14. One is a lot bigger than the other and the comb more well defined, also tail feathers are a prettier color and starting to curl. We’ve had no crowing so I don’t think it’s a roo but I’ll submit pics of both and just let me know...

    My girls are hot

It is currently very warm here so when my hens go to lay they get very hot in their nesting boxes. Their boxes are in the coop and they have a window open for air and most of the time the door is open as well. But as I watch them they are panting like crazy and I’m concerned. Is there anything I...

    Sneezing hen

One of my domineckers started sneezing today, also their water was green today (it was fine yesterday) and their container had to be scrubbed. Could they be related or 2 separate issues? Any idea what could be wrong with her? She seems fine otherwise, just hot.

    Which chicken laid the egg

I have either an Easter Egger or a gold laced Wyandotte that has started laying recently. The egg is small and almost white. I’ll add a pic showing it next to one of my domineckers eggs. My question is which hen do y’all think laid this egg

    New Babies :)

Hello all, last week I got 3 chicks that were 2 wks old and 6 that were 2 days old (or 2 days hatched lol). Right now I have them in 2 separate boxes in my laundry room with a heat lamp on them. My question is what age is best to put them in the coop with my 3 older hens? I have a dog crate I...

    Unknown killer

I have (had) 5 hens. Something got into my pen last night and killed only 1 and left her body. She was partially eaten. I only saw a small area where the fence doesn't go all the way to the ground that something could have gotten in. My fence has a top on it. Any ideas what it was??

    Sick chicken

I'm new to raising chickens but I think one of my 7 hens is sick. She's sleeping a lot, barely eating and drinking. I separated her from the flock so I'll see how she's pooping but she just doesn't look good, please help! I will note that it is very hot here but my other hens are doing ok

    Possibly sick hen

Ok first of all let me say I am brand new to raising chickens. One of my hens tonight was acting strange. She would peck around on the ground eating and then she would open her mouth and a slimy liquid would come out then she would peck around in her throw up, get mud on her beak, wipe her beak...

    My girls have stopped laying

I have 3 dominicker hens that are a year old. A week ago I switched them to an unmedicated feed. I was getting about 3 eggs every day and since Friday I've only gotten 2 eggs total. One Saturday and one Sunday. We did have a cool front come through but I'm worried something else is going on

    Brand new chicken mom

Hello all! I'm new to having backyard chickens and am learning as I go. I have 5 dominicker pullets that are 7-9 weeks old and 3 one year old hens. We were going to separate the hens from the chicks but decided to just put them together and pray for the best because it was going to be very...
