    Driving with incubated eggs

I am planning to incubate eggs in my classroom which I’ve done for at least five years. I’m currently on spring break and would like to get the eggs started and then bring them to school next Monday. Is this possible?

    Bathing an injured hen

Good morning! One of my hens wont leave the nest box since yesterday and it doesn't seem like she is broody. It looks like maybe a hawk attacked her and maybe she was able to escape to the coop. It looks like maybe dried blood and as though it strted to eat her. What should I do? I figure I...

    Sunflower Seeds

Hi! It seems that my hens have started laying more eggs since I have been giving them sunflower seeds in addition to their layer feed. Does that sound right or is it just coincidental?

    Processing

Help! I'm looking for someone to process 37 meat birds by Sunday, July 19. We didn't work out our timing correctly and scheduled a vacation. We are in Dutchess County NY and I already know of Old Hibernia Farm and they didn't have room. I'm willing to travel up to 2 hours.

I have 6 six-month old Dominique hens, 3 three-and-a-half-year old Easter Eggers, 1 three-year old White Leghorn, and 1 three-year old Black Australorp. If you would like to have already grown hens here in NYC or nearby I will give them to you. The Dominique's are just starting to lay. They...

Should chick with sprattle leg be separated?

I found one of my 3 week old Dominique chicks with her legs out underneath her. I researched here on the website and found out what to do. Her legs are bandaged together but she still can't stand and the others are walking over her. Should I separate her?

One yolk was a little hard?

I was making scrambled eggs for supper tonight and one of the yolks was quite firm. I've never seen that before in any egg that I have encountered. Anyone know what this is? I only have hens.

Just found a hidden stash of eggs!

I have 6 laying chickens and as of last week we were getting 3-4 eggs a day. All of a sudden a few days ago there was only one egg and the next day there were none. Today I had some time and I was just watching them as they walked around the run and I noticed them going up to the coop and...

Can my brother-in law have chickens in East Straudsburg, PA?

My brother in law came and visited us here in New York City and loves our chickens. He would like to have his own, but he doesn't know if he can have them in East Straudsburg, PA. Does anyone know the laws there? I did a search and can't find anything out.

Has anyone ever used a fish tank water heater?

I'm not sure if my girls got any water today. The water was frozen and I was gone all day. By the time I was home, they were asleep. My husband says that we can buy a fishtank water heater and that would keep the water from freezing. Has anyone ever used that or what do you think of that idea?

    Can layers eat grower crumbles?

I have 6 laying hens and three 3 month olds. They are now relatively happily living together but I'm not sure how to keep their food separate. I had run out of grower crumbles and they were eating the layer food for a little while and now I've run out of the layer feed and wonder if they all...

When can chicks stay outside and join other chickens?

I live on Long Island in NY and have three 8 week old chicks. They are quite large and have a lot of feathers. I'm wondering when can they live outside during the day and also when can they live together with my 6 month old hens. The temperature today is in the 50's and went down into the...

    Are they digging to China?

My hens are digging holes in the run. I guess that this is one way to look for worms. Is there any other reason? They are covering other things in the run though. I had a big rock for them to hop on and now that is sinking. Also is the ground getting higher because they are adding compost to...

    Can I overfeed my chickens?

My chickens have just begun laying eggs (2 out of 6) and they have been very noisy in the morning. It gets me very nervous since I live very close to my neighbors so I have been giving them more food in the morning to try and keep them quiet. They have their regular feed and then I'll throw in...

Too Noisy! Can they be quieted?

Just recently my 5 month old hens started making so much noise in the morning. Whenever they hear the back door open they make a racket hoping that someone will come and let them out. They also just make a lot of noise whether or not they hear the door. Is there anything that I can do? Are...

Please Help! 2 weeks old. Is this a roo?

I thought I got three females, but I was just told by the custodian in my classroom who used to farm in Guyana, that Penelope is really a roo. Does anyone else believe that is true also? Here's her/his picture?

Can you help me identify my chicks?

I got these 3 about a week and a half ago at a county fair and don't know what they are. The 4H lady showed me some grown birds that she thought they would grown to be, but she wasn't sure. Is it too early to tell? Penelope here has very short wings and a cotton ball butt. It's like a big...
