I have to brag about my brave guy...
He is 6 months old, his father is my Dark Brahma rooster (huge) and his mother is one of my Buff Orps. He is pretty big - 11lb and very sweet towards humans, but a little too rough on the hens, to the point that I had decided to take him to frezer camp...
I have a Blue Copper Marans (Mr. Copperfield) and a beautiful splash Ameraucana (Gangly). They need new homes, as they are about to start crowing and my rooster, Mr. Biggie, will not like that. I live in Chatham Co., NC, willing to meet somewhere up to 1 h away to give these boys a new home...
I just read this article. Kind of scary. I mean, even though the studay was done in NYC, it makes sense our own backyards would also have some level of lead. I'm not stopping eating my chickens eggs, but at the same time, I don't have young kids. what do y'all think...
I have a very safe coop and run, and 600 ft of electric fence surrounding it, which gives protection against coyotes, raccons, etc. Never lost a bird after putting up the fence, until a hawk decided to take residence nearby. I'm not sure if it is a juvenile or if it is mamma hawk, the thing is...
In the past week, I lost two 9 week old chicks to a predator.
The chicks have just been "weaned" out by their mom, so they are pretty much on their pwn, and all over the place, but always close to the older hens and rooster.
It happen the same way both times:
I hear a big commotion coming...
My broody is sitting on some eggs from my Dark Brahma rooster over my Blue Ameraucana hen. Has anybody ever had this cross? Any pictures?
The chicks are due on the 28th but I'd love to see some pics of what to expect...
Hi,
I need to treat my chickens for lice and worms. Instead of using two products, is there something it would work for both? And if so, how long would I need to throw out the eggs?
thanks!!
My 18 week pullet is active, eats, is growing up fast. However, now and then she has a clear discharge from her nose, with a distinctive smell.
I had her tested and she does not have coryza. Her swab came negative. she is the only one on the flock that has this, and is not constant, sometime...
I'm looking for 2 Ameraucana and 2 Black Copper Marans started or at POL pullets, from good stock.
I'm in Chatham Co. NC, but willing to drive up to 2h30 min to pick them up.
thanks!
I have an EE who used to be very friendly, would come running and jump on my lap for threats, and squat when I'd tell her to sit.
She's now molting, not really bad, but since it began, she's become very unfriendly. Today I wanted to give her some treats and she wouldn't even come close.
Is...
My husband is building a new coop, and we're having some difference of opinion on whether to add a window to the East side of the coop.
He wants to add it, so in winter there will be east light coming in early in the morning, helping to warm the coop. otherwise, he worries the birds will be...
The major reason I'd consider getting guineas would be to get rid of ticks. Do they really do that?? how many would I need for a 3 acre property. I have chickens, and they would have to share the same coop.
When I was growing up we had guineas, so I know they're funny, but they are also noisy...
I've never brought a chicken inside the house, and I don't really keep chickens as pets, but one of my BOs and one of my Australorps don't accept that. They want to be picked up and fight over who's gonna get on my lap first.
Well...
Today I was working from home, in my office, on the second...
Long story short...
I didn't believe in Chicken Math but it works just as you all know... The coop for 8 chickens my husband built last year is now too small for the 13 and a rooster I have, plus the ones I'm planning to add in the Spring.
Right now, the old coop is inside a one acre are...
I live in Central North Carolina, am looking for a Salmon Faverolles rooster, preferably from a breeder, not hatchery stock.
