I Would Love to See Pictures of Your Set Up!

I would love to see pictures of people's set up, especially those who have multiple coops and runs and breeding pens separate from their coops. We are up to two coops each with it's own run and might need a third. I have two breeds I'd like to breed and was wondering how we might do this most...

    First Bantam Egg!

Yea! We have several bantams which I adopted from a local breeder who wanted to limit plots she was breeding. They were supposedly around six months and none were laying. Well, todayi wasn't even looking for an egg, but I found one just the same! First eggs are so exciting I just had to share...

    Power Outage In Incubator!

Apparently sometime today the lightbulb in my homemade incubator went out today. When I got home the temp was down to 90-89 degrees. The eggs are on day 10. Will this kill them? Affect their growth if not? Advice is welcome from all you wonderful veteran incubators out there!! Thank you!

Any other teachersout there "looking forward" to going back this week?

I cant believe summer vacation is over already! Where did all that time go? Oh yeah, conferences, curriculum mapping days, moving my classroom (surprise from my boss), and other random teaching joys! Huh, and here I thought teachers had their summers off?!

    Need advice quick!

I have three eggs ready to go into lockdown today and I have a hen who just decided to go broody 2 days ago. She is sitting on one egg only. Can I, or better yet should I, put my three under her and let them hatch? Or at this points it best to leave them where they are? Thanks in advance for any...

Irony, thy name is broody chicken!

Never let it be said that fate or divine providence doesn't sympathize with those of us who have fallen under the yolk of chicken math! Just as I'm attempting to convince my dh that we need to get those hatching eggs my only laying hen, whom has shown zero inclination up until now!, decides to...

Mystery Gift Hen - Cochin X?

I have only had chickens for 5 months. A friend gifted me this hen from her flock she was trying to pare down. She raised her from a chick but wasn't sure what breed she is. My kids call her "Pretty". Anyone with more experience than me who can identify her? Sorry the pictures are weird, had to...

    Hello from Northeast NC

Hey ya'll! I love this site as it helps to directly feed my current addiction...chickens! I moved from a big city up north to a small country town. Never thought I would one day find myself checking on farm animals, obsessing on them, or scrolling through adds for chickens! ( don't even get me...

Help with my homemade incubator please!

I'm relatively new to chickens but I have greatly enjoyed my 11 babies and decided to try and hatch some of my own as my laying hen has no interest in going broody. I followed a model someone else made using a ten gallon aquarium, a small desk fan, pencil box, sponges, and...
