Had a nice visitor this morning,..not

Sorry to hear about the kook neighbor! I would keep my flock close, it sounds to me he is on the look-out for someone to blame! Can't really blame him for being mad though, I know how he feels, had 11 turkeys killed 2 weeks ago by some dogs. Still on the lookout, and yes, I am out thousands of...

Are Turkeys really that hard to start?

I'd like to say that I think turkeys are much easier than chicks. My bronze breasted heritage turkeys are smarter, and alot of fun~. They are over 10weeks now, and I had a horrible thing happen last Sunday. A neighbors pit bulls ate through the wire pen and killed 10, and injured 5 more. I am...

    Winter chicken question

I live in the pacific northwest region, in Oregon. We get snow here, Jan-March, and it can dip down to -12 on a cold winter night. I have barred rock, and roade island red chickens, very hearty breeds. Our chicken coop is large, 12X 18. I keep them in on very cold, snowing windy days in winter...

    Pasty rear HELP!!!!!

I have only had that happen to chicks, it is from stress, or illness. Give her some lactobacillus, from the ranch store, or where you buy your chicken food. It also has electrolytes and vitamins, it should clean up her "pasty butt".

    Pushing pine shavings into run?

I live where it snows in the winter, and I have a yard that gets really mucky when the snow melts. I use straw, or cheap hay in the hen house, and in the yard. My chickens love it! They pick at it and get the oat kernals, and alfalfa. It keeps my yard from getting really gross, and smelly...

Bob cat in yard circling Chicken Coop/Run at 7am. Now What Do I Do?

I live in an area with bobcats, weasels, bear, cougar, predator birds, eagles, etc. Our chicken coup is similar to yours, however, my fencing is field fencing, 2x2 to 6 ft. then we have chicken wire that goes all the way up to the roof. Nothing can get into it, I have 5 cats, and they have all...

What left overs are safe for chickens?

Been feeding my hens everything from leftover lasagne to old hamberger(cooked, but not spoiled, just too old to eat) for years, and of course anything that I would throw in the compost pile.( My compost pile is non-excistant now though) My eggs are the tastiest eggs, and everyone who buys them...

    Questions about feeding..need advice.

I had a comment, even though my name is debbie turkey lady, I have had chickens for 4 years now, and have some experience with starter feed, layer feed, etc. First off, the starter feed you buy at the feed store is medicated, and has vitamins for the little chicks. After a couple of weeks, I'd...
